I believe Minnesota HS Hockey playes an 8 minute overtime if the game is tied after regulation. In the playoffs, they decided to keep that format, where after regulation they play 8 minutes without resurfacing, then take an intermision, resurface and play 2nd OT for 17 minutes, followed by a 3rd OT for 8 minutes without resurfacing.

I was also confused by this as well, as I rarely watch HS hockey. However, some of my guests knew the format and explained it to me.

They put in this rule after experiencing some really long games way back when, and realized that the real-life hours could be lessened if they take this format. Some games from the boys tournament back in the 90's went into 5 OT periods (Apple Valley/Duluth East, IIRC), and each one was full length with a resurface in between. The game didn't end until after 2:00AM.

Nobody who attended Rosemount High would admit to watching that game. And true to form, I refused to watch it. I worked that night and then hung out with friends who didn't like hockey. I was one year out of school, so it was still the F* AV and Erik Westrum attitude.And if you're any sort of hockey fan you probably remember where you were when you were watching that game. Because of course you were watching that game.

Minnetonka girls win their 3rd straight AA title tonight.
Unfortunately, the Minnetonka boys won't be able to win their first as they fail to go 3-0 against Wayzata and lose in a 6AA semi.

Honestly, it doesn't matter who comes out of section 6 (except for Robbinsdale or Minneapolis, but seriously....), their fans will be annoying. If Edina is there from 2, that just makes it worse.Sure, but you're still stuck with your own.

My problem is - I don't know who my fans are now. My kid is going to BSM, but I went to Edina and know a couple of the players and several of the parents on that team. I'll just cheer for both on Wednesday.

(Personally, I prefer BSM over Edina. I have a bunch of respect for BSM due to the way they handled their transition to AA. They should be a model for all private schools.)
I say you wear Edina stuff when/if BSM and Edina play at the X. Just to see the look on the kid's face when you're cheering against his team.My problem is - I don't know who my fans are now. I expect I may wear some of each. If I get to Mariucci on Wednesday I may wear my EHA jacket and hat and a BSM sweater.

Unless you are in HS the fans are pretty indistinguishable outside of the colors they wear and the occasional different cheer imho. While Edina was a main rival in HS, I probably couldn't find a significant way to differentiate them from my own school, Wayzata, BSM, etc. In fact the only reason now I would find myself cheering hard for/against a team would have more to do with underdog status or wanting to see a great matchup than anything related to the people of the city. I'd like to see Wayzata beat BSM, Burnsville beat Edina, Rapids beat Duluth East etc. for a change of pace at the X, not because of the people that live there.
