Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

I agree with what you have to say here, but if the point of the class system is separate schools into classes with similar financial means, then shouldn't the league actually split the schools by financial means instead of enrollment? Yes this is a comment about private schools playing in classes that are too low.
That was what I would comment on, Classes have their place, the sad part is seeing the david v. goliath aspect of Milan vs Muncie gone for the most part...

There are problems with the Privates, but there is no one "catch-all" solution either. I mean, Holy Family is typically pretty good at basketball, but only so-so at other sports. How 'bout Duluth Marshal? Have you seen how bad they are at girl's basketball? How do you change the classification system in this respect? All of a sudden you get something akin to the Obama death panels that sit in judgement of the worthyness of a (private) program and what class they fit in. No one wins in that scenario...

And Milan knew that they were pretty darn good in '54. Heck, they were state semi-finalists in '53 and IIRC brought back all 5 starters. Had that been today, what are the odds that they would opt-up if that happened in Minnesota?

If you replace Milan with St Thomas? not very likely! ;)

No need for a change. Move every private school up to AA, and the Minnehaha Academy/Holy Family/etcs. of the world can do essentially what the consolidated Minneapolis team did and play an easier schedule all year and then lose in a quarterfinal or rattail game in the section playoffs. One ten-goal loss isn't going to scar these kids for life.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

One ten-goal loss isn't going to scar these kids for life.

If only this concept were understood by more people. I've covered Bemidji HS sports (football,b&g basketball and b&g hockey plus baseball and softball) for 12 years and I can't tell you how many times I've thought the kids would be really down about either a close loss in the play-offs, or a blow-out loss, when by the time they get on the bus they've forgotten about it, and it's just the coaches and me talking over how bad it was...

I mean, Bemidji went 0-23 at football in the early 2000's, ghockey lost in the section final in 4 OT, bhockey lost a 6 OT play-off game last year, or on the other end, were down 45-13 @ half in a gbball semifinal game. Afterwords, the kids just cared about hitting McDonald's and finding out if their girl/boyfriends had texted them...

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

To most kids it is still a game...it is older people who ruin it for themselves pretending it is anything more than that.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

Thanks to the internet my DVR is set to record channel 45 all day today. :D
I didn't do that today, but I will tomorrow. I knew that I wouldn't go back and watch any of the A quarterfinals, so no reason to record them.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

If you're stuck at work, or out of state, the Tournament is streamed live @: http://prep45.kstc45.com/
I can't stream at work, they lock down that kind of stuff on the internet here. Does anyone know if there is an FM station that the games will be broadcast on? I have an FM radio and headphones, so I could listen to the games.

I find it hard to disagree with those picks. I might go with STA over Hermantown though.

If they don't lock down audio streams, try here: http://www.mnsportsnetwork.com/

The StarTrib has a list of who's broadcasting what -- or at least they did a few years ago. Try their web page.

Thanks, I checked the strib, didn't find anything. Didn't think of the Pioneer Press.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

No score after 1 between Hermantown and Alexandria. I didn't get to hear the first period, since I was called into a conference call, so I don't know what the period was like.

edit: 5 seconds into the second period, Alexandria scores, to make it 1-0:eek:

Hermantown ties it up 44 seconds later, after an Alexandria penalty seconds after their goal.

Tied 1-1, early in the second period

and I'm out for lunch a while, yay food.
