Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

a scholarship to a major college program and getting drafted by an NHL team is about POTENTIAL, not about being one of the 10 best players in Minnesota Hockey right now.

And that's part of the criteria for the award. There's a reason they have college coaches and NHL scouts vote on it instead of mathematicians.

Straight from mrhockeyaward.com:The Mr. Hockey Award is given to the outstanding senior high school hockey player in the state of Minnesota. That says nothing about potential. While I agree that the award itself is about more than just stats, that doesn't mean someone with with a point in every game and at least a goal in every game should be excluded because his competition isn't as good as a guy like Fogarty. I'm not saying Heinonen deserves to win the award but he certainly should be recognized for his performance this year more than Fogarty. Personally, I think this award is Kyle Rau's to lose so the other 9 really don't matter. :p

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

It is very tough for players from A schools to compete for Mr. Hockey. What have there been, 2? A Mr. Hockey winners? Even harder for kids south/west of the cities, because the competition is generally horse****, with a few exceptions that are decent most years. I think this year's list is good, it is Rau's to lose at this point.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

I do think the group that votes really should throw a nomination to some non-traditional school players when they are putting up big numbers. How does the range get 2 players and Edina gets 2?

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

Wow, the ice is ****ty in Moorhead.

edit: the ice is so bad in the Moorhead crease that they are moving the net forward about 5 feet. No, the net will not be on the goal line.

edit2: the blue line just literally tripped a Hill player, causing him to lose the puck, leading to a Moorhead breakaway goal. Yes, the ice on the blueline deteriorated because of the sun's heat on the darker surface.

Max Everson out with a broken bone in his wrist - broken late in 'Tonka game. They'll be operating and putting in a pin. He may be able to play in Sections with a hard cast.

Hope so. Hate to see a kid like that go out so early.

I think it's time to stop the outdoor games or maybe just one per day.

They could also schedule this 2-3 weeks earlier when it's likely to be a bit colder (the avg temp climbs about 5 degrees by this time of year after bottoming out in the 3rd week of January). Granted, shots of mild weather are unpredictable, but they're a bit less likely to happen in January than in February.

That's true, I can't remember if they've always scheduled it this late or not. I was thinking it may have been so they don't have to compete with a possible Vikings playoff game weekend and be completely forgotten about. Of course that isn't a problem when Fox Sports does Hockey Day Michigan!

Shouldn't be a problem in minnesota for the next 4-5 years either.

Oh yea... The same group of folks that showed Miami vs Notre Dame for "Hockey Day In Michigan.....

Section seeding is starting to come in. You can click on the "B" in the right hand column on this page:

http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/activitypage.asp?actnum=410

to access the brackets.

I do know that 8AA is in for sure, and congratulations are in order to the Bemidji Lumberjacks for taking the #1 seed in any section tourney (8, 8A or 8AA) in boy's hockey since 1986 (their last trip to state with George Pelawa)!

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

I see that they moved the 6AA and 2AA finals back to Mariucci. I'm sure there will be people sitting on the stairs and 6 deep in the concourses again. The one nice thing about the Target Center was that there was plenty of seating.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

Kid on my kid's peewee team was telling everyone that he's getting out of school Thursday 'cause his older sister is in the State tourney and playing 11 AM. I said, "wait, you're going to have to do that again in a few weeks when your brother gets in too, aren't you?" And he said "yeah, I guess." I said his grades better be good enough to to do that, he said he's got all As. Sheesh, athletic talent and smarts too. Clearly not my kid.

I had no problems with the academics, but athletic talent was pretty putrid. :p
