Minnesota High School Hockey 09-10: Pack your bags, we're going to St. Paul!

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 09-10: Pack your bags, we're going to St. Paul!

If anyone goes to the BSM-Edina game, they can stop in at the South rink to see the big game between the Peewee C White and Silver teams that kicks off at 7:45. ;)

Yeah......St. Thomas Academy belongs in Class A....

But, but, their enrollment is only XXX! And they're all boys and they recruit players from all over the metro.

Attract students......attract students.... :)

While they play at the level assigned by MSHSL I wish they would move up to class AA but the admin at the at the school won't do it. For any sport.

On another note, the rink at the fairgrounds is a little odd. Last night was the first time I've been there for hockey, every other time I've been there was for a beef show of some kind. I knew that the floor was bigger than a sheet of ice, so I knew it wouldn't be like a normal rink. I found it funny that the players have to walk through the concourse to get from the locker rooms to the rink, I guess this is what happens when you put a sheet of ice in a building that was not meant for hockey.

My kid's team played this tournament in Menomonie, WI over the weekend in, essentially, a pole barn with a rink in it. The building is part of the county fairgrounds that is used for livestock shows in the summer and they attached a block building to it for lobby, bathrooms, locker rooms and concessions. Lots of ramps and stairs with rubber mat to get from one to the other, teams having to pass one another as one leaves the ice and next group comes on, etc. The UW Stout Blue Devils play there - they went to the DIII FF last year. One of the coldest arenas ever too.

In high school we scrimmaged Wadena. (before they actually had a high school team) The rink was fairly new but the locker room was a gutted out trailer house that sat behind the arena.

Think of this....Hamline switched its home ice from the Fairgrounds to Drake Arena (St. Paul Academy) and it was a significant downgrade. SPA is allegedly building a new rink and HU want to get in early for some ice/locker room guarantees but the trade off is playing in the worst rink in the Twin Cities for several years.

I'm not a fan of the Coliseum. You're too far from the action. Drake Arena is terrible. I remember the only advertisement on the boards was for KSTP, Channel 5(Hubbard's grand kids went to SPA) and the entire bleacher complex was metal. Everything was yellow and blue I think too.

I shot a Breck-SPA game back when Wheeler was on the team. My assignment was to get Wheeler goals...The final score was like 8-1 Breck with Wheeler scoring no goals with about six assists....

WBL Hockey Players Suffer Frostbite in Alleged Hazing

Two White Bear Lake hockey players were sent to the hospital after taking part in what was described by parents and players as a "team tradition."

Saturday morning new members of the team, dressed only in their underwear and barefoot, ran through the snow around the Stadium Sports Bar. The team had met at the restaurant for breakfast.

Saturday morning the air temperature was 14 below zero.

Parents and students said two team members needed medical attention for frostbite.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS spoke to White Bear Superintendent Dr. Michael Lovett about the alleged hazing incident.

He would only say, "We received a complaint. We investigated. We are acting in accordance with the Minnesota State High School League guidelines."

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has learned that some members of the varsity squad have been suspended. It's not clear how many. But it was enough to require some junior varsity players to move up for Tuesday's game against Woodbury.

Lovett said White Bear Lake Schools forbid hazing, but parents and students said that the snow run has happened for several years.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS asked players and coaches arriving for the Woodbury game about the incident. The few who spoke said only, "No comment."

I think Stan went to SPA too. His grandson no longer attends SPA and I *think* the granddaughter graduated.

I went to one of the Hamline-Adrian game a couple weeks ago, and yeah that arena sucked and it was cold. We walked into the arena right when Adrian was coming off from warmups, and they were really pizzed off because their locker room didn't have a bathroom, so the entire team had to walk out to the lobby and use the public 2 holer. I believe the exact quote I heard was "This is ****ing bull****!" :p

Yeah, too far away from the rink, especially if someone has to sit on the ends, where there is about 30 feet of concrete between the first row and the ice.

Me too, really nice. My son played with her son (he's now a so in hs at STA) when they were peewees & bantams. I didn't put two & two together until mom sent me an email wondering if I could give her sone a ride....lol.

BTW, as bad as the visiting team lockerroom situation is at Drake they are palatial compared to the fish houses & port-a-potty's HU uses.
