Minnesota High School Hockey 09-10: Pack your bags, we're going to St. Paul!

Well, Minnetonka had a wonderful season and made their 1st state title game, but they sure didn't save their best hockey for last which is surely disappointing. Edina is a hell of a team and earned the win, but Minnetonka didn't beat them twice (including 7-1) for no reason and I am sure they will regret not playing Hill better and avoiding 4 OTs. And of all teams to lose the title to, their #1 rival? Ugh. ;)

I would call 6AA the section of death before 2AA.

Yup.

Double yup on the bolded part.

Not to take anything away from Edina, but the championship game would have been far more interesting if Minnetonka had any legs left. They looked tired and slow. These two were clearly the two best teams in the state this season and we could a real tight game if there were not a 4ot game the night before.

Congrats Edina. Also Congrats on making it out of 2AA (The Section of Death) which includes my beloved Stars three season in a row.

Minnetonka looked tired and slow even vs. Lakeville. Hill has to be kicking themselves for letting that game slip away.

I'm sure it had some effect but Hill-Murray seemed to do just fine and they played earlier in the day.

Congrats Hornets! Great to see especially after last years disappointing tournament. 331, your son play in EHA? I have a little guy that just got on skates this winter, not quite 3 but he was able to push a chair around on the ice by himself. :)

Now Edina just has to win one more, then we can put the stupid "Who has more titles" thing to rest.

I don't think it was mentioned in here.

Bjugstad was named Mr. Hockey yesterday.

Good for him, although I wasn't terribly impressed with him at the tournament. He had one helluva season prior to it, though.

I'm pretty sure it is voted on prior to the tourney, so Blaine laying an egg at the X wouldn't have had an impact on it.

If he blows at the State Tournament, just think how sucktacular he'll be for the Gophers.

What a stupid comment. Remember Spehar? He was awesome at the tournament.

Bjugstad was a stud the rest of the year. But, I actually do expect him to be a disappointment. I do with all freshmen recruits now.

Or maybe you could give credit to Hill for playing a spectacularly well-played game to take away a lot of Minnetonka's opportunities. Hill out-played them and were the better team, other than the goaltender.

Spehar averaged 30+ points until his Sr. year. While he didn't live up to the hype he was far from garbage.

I'd take a Spehar type right now. Some of the quickest hands I've ever seen. He could get a shot off.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 09-10: Pack your bags, we're going to St. Paul!

This is a bit delayed, but to me, Minnetonka seemed like a somewhat individual/cocky team, with laziness as a problem, as they didn't play to their potential because they didn't think anyone could beat them. Edina out worked them, and Hill did as well..I felt like it was a team with guys who knew they had scholarships, etc, and that was good enough for them.

I think you're reading into my comment a bit much. Tonka didn't only lose one game all year and dominate in the process for no reason. They didn't play a good game against Hill and anyone that saw them a dozen times knows that. That comment however says nothing about how well Hill themselves played. For all I know if Tonka upped their game Hill would have adjusted accordingly, but going on history it's not an outlandish nor disrespectful observation that Tonka didn't play their best hockey conistently last weekend.
