Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

Yes. One down side of that is that it favors Dartmouth a little should they get there, as the next seed in ECAC after them (they are 3rd) is Cornell at 4th and so the 3rd place game might give them another win for their resume.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

This is as far as I can see for right now as to how we Gopher fans should think for the next week:

WCHA playoffs:
UND/MTU - doesn't matter
DU/MSUM - pull for a DU sweep so that MSUM is not a TUC (important for our TUC record, in the Dart and UNH compares)
UNO/BSU - pull for an upset so that BSU is a TUC (see above comment)
UMD/SCSU - pull for SCSU to win as many as possible, because the UMD compare is in play.
CC/Wisco - I am not sure it matters.

CCHA:
Pull for no upsets, except we want Western Michigan to lose so their RPI falls. (Our compare with them is totally dependent on RPI)

ECAC:
Yale and Union both to win.
Dartmouth to lose as many as possible. Our compare with them can switch to our benefit if we gain a little in RPI, and turn the TUC component. If Mankato is not a TUC, and the Gophers sweep this week, Minny will gain the TUC points. The more they lose, the better our RPI looks against theirs.

Finally, Hockey East:
BC to win - all the way to be HE champions.
UNH - This compare swings to us if Mankato falls off the TUC cliff, the Gophers sweep, and then anything happening the finals weekend except UNH wins the HE tourney and the Gophers don't make the F5 final. (Here I am assuming NE does not become a TUC - see below).
BU - This one is RPI dependent, so we want Northeastern to win the series in 3 games (we don't want NE to be a TUC, for UNH's sake). If not, at least make it go 3 games.
Maine/Merrimack - As long as Maine doesn't sweep, it seems good.

Now, I know this is all a pipe dream. But I am running the script as described here(except without the BSU wins). And, then in the Finals week, I put all higher seeded teams winning, which means Minny wins on Thursday night, lose on Friday.
I get Minnesota at 11th.

Go back and put the WCHA scores to home teams winning, and I get Minny tied with UNH for 12/13. This is with UNH going all the way to the HE final. Have them lose in the HE semi to Merrimack, and Minny is 12th alone.

And, the great thing about this last pipe dream is that the committee's head would explode, because CC also makes it, and there would be 6 WCHA teams in the field. The brackets would be all messed up.:D

So would a MN win in the tie versus Bemidji and a tie in the loss to Denver have resulted in any difference in the Gophs position today? (I know, I shouldn't dwell on past ref calls, but...)

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

Why were you in the red earlier Numbers? It seemed a bit strange to me.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

Changing those 2 results puts Minnesota at #13 in the current PWR, mostly due to an increase in their RPI. At this point, they would still need to hang on to those compares - WMU, BU, Dartmouth, Maine.

Thanks refs!

So did I miss news on Ness or Matson, or hasn't anthing been said?

Gophers announce new radio deal:
http://www.gophersports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8400&ATCLID=205112410

The agreements, which both commence with the 2011-12 athletic season, will see Gopher football broadcast on Clear Channel’s KFAN Sports Radio 1130 AM and KTLK 100.3 FM, while Gopher men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey will air on Hubbard Broadcasting’s 1500 AM ESPN Radio.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

Big news from KFAN, Gophers have cut ties with WCCO. Football will now be broadcast on KFAN, Hockey and Basketball will be KSTP. It goes without saying, but WCCO jumped the shark long ago.

Penn State arena construction is ahead of schedule with a proposed completion by 2013. BTHC coming our way a little sooner than expected?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

Not a fan of BTHC heh?:D I think as long as some of the key WCHA rivalries are maintained, bring it on... From a marketing perspective, it's good for college hockey.

I haven't read or heard anything that would make me think the BTHC is good for college hockey. IMHO it may hurt some of the smaller programs.

It will also make for a conference final outside of MN on a regular basis. I for one don't look forward to a semi-annual trip to places such as Detroit!

At least the Sue fans won't invest our town twice a year anymore! I'm looking forward to the BTHC and not having to play the cheap shot FlickerTails.

I think you're the only Gopher fan who is of this mindset.

Boo. :(
I liked that they were on the Evil Neighbor. I could pick them up from just about anywhere.

Especially when the hockey game conflicted with the Wild and Gophers.
