The third goal (6-on-4) wasn't on Bench, though. Potty has to learn to stay out of the box.

After the first 30 minutes or so, I thought Boreen was just having one of those games. The puck kept rolling off her stick and her shots were wide/high. After that, she had a different kind of game. EDIT: If you had told me when she was a frosh that at any point of her career, she would be third in the country in points in February, I wouldn't have believed. I've always liked her compete level, but the skill has really ramped up over the years.

3 goals on 17 shots...Why was Bench even in the game after the first period?

There will be no learning with #16. Ya got what ya got with her. Undisciplined and selfish with the puck. Harsh but that is the reality.

I consider her improvement to be amazing! She's reached the point where I am questioning her commitment on defense, which is a huge complement to her increased visibility and importance!!!

Boreen is actually sixth nationally in points, and I knew that when I posted, so who knows why I typed "third".

To some extent, Catie Skaja has been the "other" member of UM's top line this season, but over the course of 32 games, her contributions have been obvious. Her speed that allowed her to pull away on both of her goals yesterday was impressive. Plus, she keeps working shift after shift, which makes her effective on the forecheck that has always been crucial to the success of GWH.

Next up: after last month playing St. Thomas whose roster was depleted by the double whammy of the Olympics and Covid (UM was missing several players itself -- Brown, Knowles, Oden), the two teams now play this week, and if the Gophers win both, again the following weekend. I would think that Joel Johnson would be back at some point in those meetings, if they all occur.

Yesterday afternoon the officiating crew had some issues. They messed up Hemp's goal and had difficulty defining what constituted a body check or trip but they were able to do one thing right and that is taking out #5 with a pretty nice check and preventing her from endlessly wandering around with puck. Thank you for that.

That is pretty funny!

Thanks...

Oh and for those of you holding onto hope that #16 could "learn" and avoid the undisciplined penalty and just have a game where she mostly ignored her linemates...

Ahhh...No.

I wanted Emma Conner in Catie's place on that line earlier in the year. We'll never know how that would have worked out (A Kessel did pretty good w/ TWO freshmen .. lol). But I wouldn't argue for that now!

I think this top line is one of the brightest spots the Gophers have had in a number of years. They look to me like a line that could play on a championship team! Knock on wood!!

It's funny how certain combinations just click. The line with Wente between Zumwinkle and Schammel was very good for ~ 1.5 years, but Wente never seemed to have the same spark outside of that. Hannah was pretty unique in that they could plug random people onto her line and it always seemed to work immediately (like when Kessel would be out with an injury).

The Gophers do not appear this season to have one of those elite won-loss records which are usually the signature of a championship quality team. Upon closer examination perhaps they do have certain aspects of that elite won-loss.

I think it is an interesting aspect of Minnesota's record that they are 24-4 in games settled in regulation, one of the 3 or 4 best records in the country. But, as I think ARM noted sometime earlier, the Gophers are not a good 3 on 3 team with a record of 0-3-1.

Luckily for the Gophers this week's games against Saint Thomas are the last two games they have this season where there could be a 3 on 3 overtime.
