Minnesota Gophers 2021-2022

Luckily for the Gophers this week's games against Saint Thomas are the last two games they have this season where there could be a 3 on 3 overtime.

I will continue to contend that 3 on 3 is ridiculous for a college game. Try 4 on 4 if you wish to shake things up to achieve a score quicker, or just go straight to a shootout. Leave 3 on 3 for the pro game.

D2D has been MIA for a while.
He had a vacation coming up, so I'm thinking it is a pleasurable absence, and not a health-related one. But yes, we can use him around with HS and college peaking, and back in the day, I could have spun that into a bad pun about some other game coming up on the other side of the world.

Hey, we agree on something, kinda. 3 on 3 is a complete joke. I don't like shootouts either. 4 on 4 is fine (prefer 5 on 5) with a tie being a tie after that. But play 10 minutes, Watts the rush to get out of the rink so quickly? In fact, if you take the 3 on 3 time plus the shootout time it probably equals a 10 minute ot.

Dear #3 and #22. Love what you have been doing this year on a line with #9. Just a couple of favors to ask of you for this upcoming weekend. Try and feed #9 the puck, even a little more than you already do, and if #9 tee's it up for you, bury it in the back of the net. Oh and one other thing...If you could have a chat with #5 and tell her to get the puck to #9 or else you or the officials will seperate her from the puck, that would be much appreciated.

From the poster(s) who are advocating for #9 to win the Patty Kazmaier award.

I would be fine with 5 on 5 for 10 minutes, then call it a tie. There is no reason to throw a totally different aspect of the game on the ice after a team has already played for 60 minutes. Any other posters with us on this?

I'm in agreement with any 5-on-5 hockey solution over anything that isn't, but I was fine with the five minutes of 5-on-5 OT. Do we absolutely need a winner and loser in this game? No? Then play five minutes of OT, and at that point, the ice could likely use a resurfacing, so let's call it a draw and go home. If that's not an option, I will sign the petition up for consideration.

I watched the St. Cloud - UMD game on Tuesday. It was scoreless after the 3 on 3 overtime, and won by St. Cloud in the shootout. Rachel Herzog, former defensemen for St. Cloud, was helping with commentary during the game. During the 3 on 3 she commented that she liked 3 on 3 because it forced the forwards on the ice to play defense. I thought that a very interesting take, and worthy of being passed on. Maybe we need more feedback from the players? Anyone with those connections?
You know my stance, but I am in the stands. I will be open to opinions from the rink.

If the forwards at SCSU didn't play any defense normally, that might help to explain why they haven't done better over the years.

Some years ago Eeyore wrote a classic observation comparing the SCSU defense to some disastrous rout of a British Army contingent in North Africa during WW2. I forget the details
(name of operation, commanding officer, etc.) which of course are what made it so perfect, but if ever there was a post worthy of the forum Hall of Fame that was it.

Still Eeyore...Briefly appeared here earlier in the season but seemed so disgusted with Gopher fans that it might have been the last straw for him. Either that or he is a Covid statistic...Hopefully not the latter.

Definitely would have liked to have seen that post you mention, but don't recall it.

Taylor Heise took her 4th penalty of the year!

Turns out it was just a ruse to set up a breakaway when she came out of the box.

It's probably asking too much for the announcer for St. Thomas to be able to pronounce Gopher players name correctly...
Definitely asking too much. In order to get names right, an announcer needs to be able to either: find the online roster and listen to a player pronounce her own name; listen to how the PA announcer is saying it; ask Dan; ask Mandy; or be able to read phonetically.

Still, not the worst. As far as I remember, he only inconsistently missed: Skaja, Heise, Potomak, Dunne, Tatur, and Knowles. I don't know if he ever attempted Hanzlick, because my stream was frozen for long stretches of the third period. At a minimum, I always knew what name he was attempting to say, and he gave us a name, as opposed to calling them all "Minnesota."

It brings back fond memories of the days of Seeler, Schleper, and Schoullis, when unfamiliar announcers would just invent random sounds that started with an S and use them somewhat interchangeably for any of the three.

Also had the emphasis wrong on Boreen (as Bore-ein) but at least that was close. And Skaja is going to be difficult without help, no question.

At one point, when St Thomas scored, I thought he was going to break out the "and boom goes the dynamite."

I lurk. I confess that I'm feeling a bit vindicated about my rant about Gopher fans writing this team off.

I also confess that I do not remember the post in question.
