Minnesota Gophers 2021-2022

What are you not sure about? #22 absolutely messed up the the 3 on 1 rush where #9 just teed it up for her to put into the open net. #22 also had 2 great opportunities to get empty net goals. Heise was set up beautifully by #22 in the slot and normally puts those shots in the back of the net but didn't get it done. #9 also hit the post on an ENG attempt. Any of those gets you to 3-1 or 4-1.
You could just as well point to a half-dozen or more great opportunities that the Badgers failed to capitalize on.

That's for those posters who care about the Sinners...I don't.

I am at a bit of a loss of words for how well this weekend went for the lady Gophers. Still processing the game that just concluded with the 4-3 win for Minnesota.

Gophers sweep the series with a 4 - 3 win. Looked like a real team effort to play to their potential and make a statement after the Mankato overtime loss.

Holy smokes the Gophers are going all in on European Players...

They get a commitment for 2022 from Josefin Bouveng of Sweden (formally a Princeton recruit who stayed in Sweden because of Covid and the Princeton season being cancelled) She is on the Sweden Olymipc Olympic roster for 2022. Evidently Northeastern was interested in her as well.

Credit to GPL posters Gopherguy05 for breaking the news and Iceburg for some additional information on her.

Big series this weekend. Gophers played good enough last weekend to have more true confidence than they have had in a long time. And they know their job this weekend is to make a statement and put their name back among the pantheon.

Ohio State knows this and they are determined to shove it back up the Gophers yin yang and tell them to park it where the sun don't shine!!

Massive is actually Columbus Crew (MLS) lingo. But it certainly applies.

Do your Loons use that also? Maybe it's an MLS thing, not just a Columbus thing.

I can’t take it anymore so I just have to say it. The announcers for this gopher/buckeye broadcast are the biggest imbeciles I’ve ever heard in my life.

If you fall down on 3 on 3 OT, and you're a little bit tired, that's OK, just take it easy for a couple minutes until you get your breath back!

Buckeyes win with about 1:30 left in OT. I have to say it, Abigail Boreen probably had her worst game of the season. including falling down leading to an odd-man rush going the other way. Ohio State capitalized, 2-1 final.

For the most part, I thought the Gophers played fairly well. The last 15 minutes or so of game action? Not so much. Four penalties in the game, all by seniors. A little poise please. When you're nursing a one-goal lead in the 3rd period, 4-on-4 is not your friend. Couldn't see the Skaja penalty well enough on the stream to comment on that, but there was no reason to get into the pushing contest that resulted in the matching penalties. OSU definitely executed a 4-on-3 better than UM, even though the Gophers had the pre-OT break to talk about most of their chance.

After that, whoever was coming up with the UM line combinations deserves much of the blame. I admire Boreen's effort, but she just isn't a good enough skater to be out there 3-on-3 in this game. Turns it over twice in a row because she loses her balance. That's a lot of UM's problem in OT, in that some of their top players aren't very fast or aren't under control.

Can't fault Bench much, because the only reason they made it to OT was because she covered for MWeth setting up the Buckeye coming down the slot.

One step forward, and immediately step back. I guess this is just the limit of this team. For as many seniors as they have, it would be nice to see them show a little pride against OSU.

At some point in the third, I can't remember what the minute was, MWeth almost makes one of the greatest plays ever. And then with two to go in regulation, in a 20 second span, she makes two plays that should qualify as inexcusable. How can we turn a corner when our alphas do s*** like that at absolute crunch time.

Well, we failed. We played pretty well and it was a good game. But I don't think the objective was to show the Buckeyes we could play with them, or "somebody has to lose when two good teams play". We were trying to turn a corner and we did not do it. 50 minutes in we are up 1-0 in a great, hard fought game, and for the last 10 minutes and OT Ohio State did what it took to win and we did not.

Going in to yesterday Ohio State had the best PP in the country at 36.2%. The Gophers were at 22.86%.
On the PK Ohio State was at 91.8%. Gophers 83.95%. Special teams favored the Buckeyes, and special teams more or less won them the game.

Anyways, the season is not over...lol. Yesterday was a failure but we still have opportunities this season and I believe our team could still "turn the corner" and pull this thing off. Go Gophers.

Not over?!?

Minnesota wins today, and then wins six very winnable remaining games, while Wisconsin and Ohio State splits their final weekend, and Minnesota wins the WCHA title.

Of course. But having forms of the word "fail" in the post twice I just wanted to make clear I haven't lost the hope. Also, I was hoping the "lol" might imply something...lol

True & Highly Salient. I was tempted to make this an additional option in my "Multiple Choice Quiz" in Friday's 3 Stars. But that would have meant there were two correct answers. (See the Buckeye Thread)

Since 3 Posters have made this point in various ways, I'll toss in my two cents.

When two outstanding teams push each other to the limit, falls & mistakes are going to happen. 60+ minutes of relentless forechecking & backchecking have both immediate & cumulative effects. 3x3 makes things even tougher. Seemingly unforced errors can be the product of the intense siege.

How to deploy your players is an internal Gopher matter. But I have to say I think you guys are being awfully hard on a couple of very fine players.

1-0 after that 1st period is a miracle. I wonder if any of our poor chickens still have heads!

BUT, I think we may have had 4 SOG, I don’t think they counted Boreen’s…lol
