Need some more braid on that reel. Hopefully Yale snaps out of the funk and gives you guys a game. You guys don't want to face North Dakota for the fifteenth time this season anyway ;)

Well, 3rd time actually.
And I'm actually pretty pleased with the bracket. I was semi-worried that maybe BC would be there instead of UND.

I like MN's chances against the Sioux. UND has been struggling as of late. I think their only hope is if they get goaltending at a level that they haven't seen for a while.

I heard that if MI won...the gophers would have been in a bracket playing MI in Grand Rapids and then play the winner of New Hampshire and Denver.

If that's the alternative, I'm ok if a win against Yale means we play UND.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Did you see the Gophs last game? Who's struggling?

I did, up close and personal.
But right now the only thing that worries me about UND is that in their last game they got some scoring outside of their first line. I still maintain that if they don't get better goaltending than they have seen the past few games, they aren't going to get very far.

But the Gophers have to get by Yale first for any of it to matter for our purposes.

Given a UND-Gopher rivalry clash would be the last time these two will meet for at least a couple years (unless it's postseason) and with a FF appearance on the line to boot, this is a tough game to call. Both teams have had their share of hiccups and inconsistency this season, yet they've both shown some resiliency in coming back strong after disappointing losses. Even though the Gophers hold the statistical edge on D, special teams and goaltending, Hak typically has his troops cranked up in the postseason. IMHO under the circumstances this game is nearly a toss up. Let's get by Yale first.;)

3 losses in their last 12 played and winners of 5 straight going into an essentially meaningless game. Perhaps they haven't given their best performances of late, but they turned a WCHA semi-blown effort last year into a FF berth.

Besides adding hardware, the F5 meant nothing to MN, and basically nothing to UND, as far as seeding goes. I didn't even meltdown after MN lost on Fri. I honestly shrugged and said to myself, "Oh well."

An absolutely preposterous statement that I hope you don't really believe. Are you fishing maybe?

Then that's what you'll say when they lose in the big tournament too. No big deal.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Your melodrama is noted. I agree with Brent.

MN was locked in the second #1 seed. UND was pretty much locked into some sort of #2 seed, and we ALL knew they'd both end up in Grand Rapids in that case. Forest from the trees, you know? We have a bigger trophy on our minds. :)

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

"Meaningless game", "meant nothing to MN"? Funny.:D

"I'm disappointed, to be quite frank, that we're not playing tomorrow night", said Lucia at the Final Five postgame conference. "Anytime you have a chance to play for a championship, you want to play for a championship. Especially the last one that we get to be a part of concerning the league."

I qualified it with "besides adding hardware." Please take the WHOLE post. :)

For seedings for the granddaddy of trophies? It meant nothing. Nada. Zip.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Last Friday's loss was nowhere near as bad as the Final Five semi-final loss last year. This season was about winning a National Championship from the beginning and the Gophers have set themselves up for that. They have played their best in the biggest games of the year so far, and there is no bigger game than Friday afternoon. My hopes have been high since the start of the season and I am not about to lower them now. I bought tickets to Grand Rapids and expect the Gophers to show up with their A-game ready to go.
