Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

I don't think he thinks he believes he just has to show up. He plays hard in most areas and backchecks well. I think he sees himself as a finesse player and set-up guy, when he should be plowing people over and taking over games with his size and skill. Watched Gaudreau make a run through a couple guys last night for a scoring chance and drew a penalty. In most cases this year, Bjugs would have peeled around looking for a trailer to feed instead of continuing on. He is good in every other aspect of the game, but what should set him apart is a power-forward mentality.

I can agree with that.

I still think Bjugs should have been a wing on the 1st line not center, then have Condon (or Haula) at center and Rau on the other wing, but that's me. Isaackson on the 1st line does nothing, he is a 3rd or 4th liner imo.

For the NCAA's I would love to see:

A first line of Bjugs Haula and Rau
2nd line of Warning Condon and Budish

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

If I were Florida I would NOT be impressed with BJugs performance this year. He does not have the Alpha Dog mentality that wants to take over the game constantly. It feels like he thinks all he has to do is show up and that is good enough. He is the biggest and most talented guy out there, but does not play like it.

Interesting comments. If he had the Alpha Dog mentality do you think he would have stayed in college this past year? I mean, wouldn't the Alpha Dog have gone after it?

Overall, I think Bjugs has had a very good college career with two 20+ G seasons and anchored that 1st line pretty well, especially considering he came to the Gophers directly out of HS. He also has a phenomenal faceoff percentage of about 60%, which is outstanding. He had a breakout season last year (25-17-42), but this season he's a little behind that pace (21-15-36). But being the quality player that he is, a lot of teams have keyed in on him this season to shut him down too.

I think a lot of Gopher fans expected Bjugs to perform at Vanek levels this season and that hasn't happened. I think the potential was there early in the season for Hobey consideration, but Bjugs, similar to last season, has been quiet in scoring at key stretches while others like Condon or Warning stepped up.

I think Bjugs is physically and mentally ready to take the next step. Granted he's still a work in progress, but he's got tons of scoring potential and with his big frame he'll make an impact in the NHL.

He probably did not leave, because there was a real possibility of no NHL season this year.

He also wanted to come back and try to win a NC with the Gophers, most of the key pieces were still in place from the Frozen Four team. They still have a good shot, just like many other teams.

This year the tourney is wide open with no clear cut favs, a team just needs to get hot goaltending and a few lucky bounces and bam they are in the NC game.

They have a shot... IF they show up to play. :p

If MI pulls this **** off, there is a good chance we would meet them in the first round in Grand Rapids.
That would be a real tough draw to start the tournament.

Yeah it would be the worst possible 1st round match up I could ever think of. They are ripping up the CCHA right now.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

My biggest concern for the regional won't be effort because we saw what happened against UND in the WCHA FF last year, but rather having Isackson on the first line, recent poor play by Parenteau (I know a lot of guys had a bad game last night but is play has been poor for a few weeks) and I wonder if Condon is languishing on the 3rd. Although I love seeing him at center rather than wing.

I truly believe this team will not lay an egg going forward and will have to be beat by solid, dedicated play.

Great point.

I was giving the Big Ten a shot but now I hear the shootout thing... Wow.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

The way it is shaking out so far it looks like if Michigan wins we get them, if they lose we get Yale or Canisius, probably Yale. That's crazy stuff.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Why would we ever get Canisius?

The 4th seed band has canisius, jan, cc/bucky winner michigan or yale. Has to be Michigan,Yale or Canisius, I have no clue what league they play in and dont care so I wasnt sure if they could play the Q or not.
