Minnesota Golden Gophers Season Thread 2017-18 Part II

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers Season Thread 2017-18 Part II

If Don Lucia retires or gets let go. Who is out there with the credentials to bring this program back to it's glory? I don't believe there are

In all honesty, not a question born of snark, who would want the job? The program isn't attracting people the way it once had, but those fans that remain continue to expect constant first place finishes within the conference. While the team seems has the talent level for it on paper, something's missing. Is it strictly coaching, locker room cohesion, or simply overhyped talent? I'd spend as much time interviewing the current non-coaching staff and returning players and the university itself spends interviewing potential coaches. Sure, the potential paycheck is attractive, but is it worth the high profile headaches that come with it?

People at the pinnacle of a hypercompetitive field like sports are never satisfied. Michigan was the same way and everyone promised Mel was staying put. Sorry, but given the chance, most people are going to take a quarter-million-dollar raise and all the headaches and prestige that comes with it.

Who would want the job?

Where's the rolling smiley?

I wouldn't want to deal with the fans at the U. It was a very different situation when the Wooger left, Lucia came into a situation where the team was solid and the fans were still excited. Gopher fans seem like a really dour lot these days, and it's not like the U is still "THE" premiere spot to land for any and all recruits in the area.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers Season Thread 2017-18 Part II

The U was down when Lucia took over roster and performance wise and they don't have to be the only destination in MN to be desirable. And the fans would keep a candidate away? Sounds like wishful thinking.

Most people find a way to tolerate headaches for 650k per year.

With the program having won the Big Ten's regular season title for the first four years of the league's existence, plus the last two years when they were in the WCHA, then yes, it's only natural that the fans have high expectations.

There are 2 options here. Motzko turns down the Gophers job or accepts it. I say he turns it down.

At a job you really enjoy as well. No brainer.

I was SO impressed with the Huskies when they played Minnesota in a home and home back in January. In the rematch at Mariucci I thought the Gophers played as well as they're capable of, but were very fortunate to win and get the split. No doubt St. Cloud is extremely talented, but their systems and the way they play the game have contributed as much (or more) to their success as the talent level throughout their lineup. Either way credit Motzko for recruiting and developing that talent plus developing and implementing their systems. Unless and until they happen to play the Gophers in the NCAA tournament I will be pulling for them all the way. If they do win it all I would think he would turn the Gopher job down - assuming the Gophers do decide to make a change and extend him an offer.

I'm sticking with G Money. I'd be more than okay with Motzko.

Too many ifs still. I'll start to really pay attention to the scenarios after this coming weekend.

The Monte Carlo Method (MCM) calculates risk variance of the dependent variable (PWR) around the prediction of the regression function using a probability distribution of ALL possible outcomes. Probability distributions are a much more realistic way of describing uncertainty in variables of a risk analysis. Depending upon the number of uncertainties (ifs) and the ranges specified for them, an MCM could involve thousands or tens of thousands of recalculations before it is complete. In this way, MCM not only provides a much more comprehensive view of what may happen, but how likely each outcome is. So any "ifs" are drastically reduced in the MCM output. It was first used in the construction of the first atom bomb.

No. We’re Minnesota. We get the proven commodities like Alabama, Auburn, and the other blue bloods. We don’t need to risk it on an wholly unproven commodity.

He's done pretty well with NMU this year, considering where they were at. Any suggestions other than Motzko? Gotta have a backup plan
