Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

True. Just trying to spin a glass half full view for the rest of the season.

But for Scooby, this Woody Allen quote is more fitting for his view on this season; "I don't see the glass as half empty. I see it half full --------------------- of poison!"

Unfortunately, while Scooby's pessimistic posts tended to make me feel more optimistic, that is no longer the case. After going 1-3 versus SCSU and AA, I think it would take a Denver sweep to get any optimism back. And I would bet money (not a betting man typically) that it won't happen.

I was shocked when people said that Lucia should be canned. I no longer feel that way. In fact I'm hoping that he will quit after the season as is rumored and that Dean Blais has a clause in his contract that he can leave Nebraska Omaha if he is offered the Gopher job.:o

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

Well, according to my gopherpucklive sources (joe-v among them), since Lucia wanted to build this Gopher team around Tony, he decided to put him at goalie, since that is the most important position on the ice. Kangas will play in place of Fischer in a pairing with Leddy, but will continue to wear his goalie pads and use his goalie stick, as Lucia believes Kangas will better take the body than Fischer if he wears the goalie pads.

I'm not saying my sources are right, I'm just reporting what I've heard.

Kangas on D in full gear smothering bodies in the corner and blocking shots in the high slot sounds like the missing piece of the puzzle this season. Also Tony and Kangas in full goalie gear on a full ice rush could be our answer to the scoring problems too. The question is, why didn't they think of this earlier in the season? I blame Hill.

Maturi says Lucia will coach next year...if he wants to.:D Let's wait until the season plays out and then ask him again.

This is the same guy who still thinks so highly of Tim Brewster that he extended his contract recently. I fully expect a huge raise and contract extension for Lucia to be offered in the near future.

Joel Maturi: Mediocrity is good enough for me!

If he stays on, which I suspect he will, I doubt Lucia gets the contract extension after this season. There's a good recruiting class coming in next season with 4 USHL All Stars and Bjugstad, a potential 1st NHL round pick, so he may get one after next season if all goes well.

I'd say odds are good that Denver will sweep MN. :p

It was hard to find this thread, it dropped too far down.

Any way, anyone know who are the invites to next year's Dodge Holiday Classic and what the dates will be?

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

Leddy traded by the Wild today and Russo has posted that the Wild were concerned with his development at Minnesota.

Double whammy. Leddy probably isn't going to be around much longer anymore (that's the speculation on GPL), and the Wild have already given up on their number one pick and it's the hometown kid that everyone wanted to see them take and have it work out.
