Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Listening to the game tonight on http://ulive.cbssports.com/ - They will drop the puck in a few minutes.

The announcer disclosed that Meghan Lorence will not be in the lineup to a "nagging injury" and Brook Garzone is also out, but did not say why.

Jordyn Burns will be playing D tonight, paired with #13.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Davis - 2G, 2A
Bona - 2G, 2A
Schipper - 1G, 3A
Ramsey - 4A

And those are just the 4-point scorers. Four other Gophers also lit the lamp (Brandt twice, Menefee, Terry, and Brausen) and four more recorded assists.

Recap from the U.: No. 1 Gophers Rout Bemidji State, 10-0

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

I don't think that there is a member of the team that doesn't have a point now after tonight. Cept the backup Goalie.

Do you think they'll go with the backup goalie anymore? She's only played in 2 games so far this season? Or might that depend on the score and if there is a chance for another shut out?!

After tonight the Gophers have scored more than a goal a game more than anyone else in the country, 4.79 to Clarkson in second at 3.76.

Clarkson is the only team that has scored more goals per game than Minnesota's goal differential, which is 3.72.

The people that stayed home to watch people from countries they couldn’t place on a map march around looking like a $3 bill missed a terrific performance, one of the most dominating performances I’ve seen, and Bemidji didn’t play that bad, the Gophers would’ve smoked whoever they played last night, and that includes every Olympic team except two. I doubt Noora could have kept the Gophers under 5 last night. Come to think of it, Team Canada & USA would have had their hands full too.

.. Bemidji didn’t play that bad...
I expect that BSU will play much better today. Mowat was okay, but I thought Havel struggled. Defensively, they didn't protect the prime scoring areas with enough vigor. It reminded me of what we saw from OSU for the first game in 2014; the Buckeyes were more determined on Saturday, and I expect that the Beavers will be as well.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Other than a four minute stretch (and especially the two minutes of 4x4 that started it off) the Gophers played well tonight. There were some iffy moments in the first period but I thought that had more to do with how much more aggressively Bemidji played than they did last night. Then they controlled the third period, defending a two goal lead by only allowing Bemidji three shots.

But, man, those four minutes were terrifying. The defensemen played the puck like it was a grenade. The forwards ran around confused. And Leveille let in a couple of soft goals. After the third goal allowed, the Gophers called time out and that seemed to restore some order to the proceedings.

The game really changed back in Minnesota's favor a couple of minutes later. The line of Davis, Schipper, and Bona played the shift of the year. They didn't score but they also never let the Beavers get the puck more than about twelve feet away from their own net. It reasserted a sense that the Gophers were in control of things and I never really felt like they were threatened after that. Brandt scored a few minutes later and they clamped down in a way that they did not in the second game against Ohio State. That shift belongs in the highlight reel.

And Kate Flug got her first goal as a Gopher, a beautiful roof shot. So it was all around a good game.

Recaps galore!

U. of M. - No. 1 Minnesota Extends Unbeaten Streak to 16

WCHA - MINNESOTA EARNS WEEKEND SWEEP WITH 5-3 WIN AGAINST BEMIDJI STATE

Star Tribune - Brandt scores twice to lead Gophers women's hockey over Bemidji State

Pioneer Press - Minnesota extends unbeaten streak to 16

And just a note as far as the WCHA standings are concerned... the Gophers need only take 3 standings points from the Badgers next weekend to clinch the WCHA regular season title outright.

And Leveille let in a couple of soft goals.
I don't agree with that. I didn't see the third goal well enough to say, so that one could have been soft. The first was a breakaway and the second was a tip. You're offended every time a Gopher fails to score on a breakaway, so I'm assuming that isn't one that you think was soft. As for the Anderson goal, look how many goals the "U" scored on deflections this weekend; those are tough to stop. After the team looked so shaky and yielded a breakaway with McMillen and three forwards out on the four-on-four, I didn't like seeing a return to that alignment right after BSU had scored its first goal.

I liked the timeout and the response out of it.

... look how many goals the "U" scored on deflections this weekend; those are tough to stop. .

this is direct contrast to your statement that "Mowat was OK, Havel struggled" the main difference between yesterday and today was the goalie's best friend, 3 pipe shots plus near the end 2 Gophers (Terry & Cameranesi I think) couldn't buy a goal as opposed to the previous night when everything worked just like it had been scripted for a highlight video. Stopping most of those would have been pure luck. Sure Bemidji played a bit better team defense today and you have to give them credit for not giving up and kept fighting when it looked like it may be another blowout, and they made a game of it.
