Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

I don't agree with that. I didn't see the third goal well enough to say, so that one could have been soft. The first was a breakaway and the second was a tip. You're offended every time a Gopher fails to score on a breakaway, so I'm assuming that isn't one that you think was soft. As for the Anderson goal, look how many goals the "U" scored on deflections this weekend; those are tough to stop. After the team looked so shaky and yielded a breakaway with McMillen and three forwards out on the four-on-four, I didn't like seeing a return to that alignment right after BSU had scored its first goal.

I was thinking primarily of the third goal, plus what people at that end of the rink said between periods.

Okay. I didn't like an implication that she carried a larger percentage of the blame, because I thought the whole team -- skaters, goalie, and coaches -- lost some focus starting with the offsetting minors to Cameranesi and Miller, and not ending until the timeout. Partly, that was BSU refusing to go quietly. I don't blame the Gophers; when you've outscored a team 14-0 to that point, you are going to let down.

I wish that everyone could see the first shift that Sarah Davis skated after that timeout. When teammates see that effort, it is going to rid any loss of focus or shell shock from sudden goals in a hurry. I'm glad the team was challenged, and I loved the response.

I'm not sure it was their first shift after the timeout I was referring to; it definitely wasn't the team's first shift and I don't remember who was out for the face-off after the third Bemidji goal. But Davis/Bona/Schipper had a shift there for which the word "frenzy" doesn't do justice.

The one I am speaking about was the first for that line after the timeout. It was just below me, and Davis was everywhere. It could serve as a how-to video on starting and stopping and making your presence known once you arrive.

One would hope the lesson learned will help them down the stretch when they are faced with a similar situation, knowing from experience how to react when they temporarily lose focus and thus the momentum. Credit also goes to Coach Frost for calling the timeout and then saying whatever he said to his team to get them back on track.

P.S. I wasn't at the game, but was listening to the web broadcast. When BSU suddenly turned the tide against the Gophers the guy doing the play-by-play was just dumbfounded, and asked something like, "What in the world is going on here?" From accounts here his reaction to what was going on (complete bewilderment!) seems to be very apropos.

I'm sure everyone had the same reaction, players, fans, coaches ... I don't think it was a loss of focus, Bemidji was playing to score all weekend, on Friday they had some opportunities but the puck did not go in for them. They got a little Mojo going for them the way the Gophers did in period 2 of Friday's game. Sometimes you just have to give credit to the offense rather than blaming the defense or goalie. When that happens, coaches call a time out and hope it breaks the other teams momentum.

Ya, they just smoked the goalie with some hard, well placed shots. No defense to stop 'em.

Oh so true, Frost is such a great coach....now that's funny. He comes all the way out East and plays Colgate...hmmmm Invites Princeton to travel to Minnesota. Really....reach down and see if they are still there. They play 4-6 tough games a year. Come out East and play a few top level teams my man. You could throw a monkey from the Como Zoo behind the bench there and it would win 98 percent of their games.

This made me laugh...:)

I've heard that even the trolling is weaker out East, and you've convinced me there may be merit to that opinion. Excepting TTT of course, but he's more of an international caliber star.

And then they go to the NCAA tournament and win 6 straight games for 2 Natl Titles. Crazy weird, you know, after playing such a weak schedule. :)

Your right, MN gets a little too complacent with all the WCHA schedule inbreeding - gets tiresome playing the same old lame Championship teams every season.

According to my TV schedule, one of the Gophers' games versus Bemidji State will be shown on BTN Tuesday -- tomorrow -- morning at 9:00 a.m. I assume this is CST, but I recommend checking your guide.

Also, one of the games at Wisconsin is scheduled to be shown on BTN on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 9:00 a.m.

Finally, one of the UMD games is scheduled on BTN on Monday, Feb. 24, at 9:00 a.m.

Not live and not exactly primetime, but hey it's 100 times better than nothing!

Calendar noted! :)
