Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

A little late, but I didn't see this posted anywhere. Congrats to Amanda Leveille for winning the WCHA's Rookie of the Week award:

Even though the Gophers will be losing Noora Raty - perhaps the greatest goaltender of all time in USA Women's D1 hockey - next season's team appears to be in very capable hands with Amanda Leveille in net. She has not given up a goal in almost five games of total playing time - on 84 shots - which is, needless to say, perfection and can't be improved upon.

Congratulations!

Actually, ARM did get that posted on the 26th (currently it's on page 3 of this thread)...
Congratulations to Amanda Leveille on being named WCHA Rookie of the Week.
That said, I concur with the sentiment about Amanda. Between her and incoming frosh Sidney Peters, I think we'll be in good shape. My only question is whether one of them will be the "primary" goaltender or if Frosty is planning on using a rotation. Guess we'll just have to wait and see... Let's get through these final five games first.

On a slightly related note, I believe the WCHA will be announcing their year-end-awards before this weekend's games.

There should be a banquet on Thursday night where the awards are presented.

Here's the link to the U.'s press release on the Kazmaier Award announcement.

Bozek, Kessel and Räty Named Top-Three Finalists for Patty Kaz
My word! Isn't this just an outstanding development!

The odds are starting to look pretty good for the program to add a second Kazmaier winner.

The Bozeks, Kessels, and Rätys should be very proud of their daughters. Not only is each on the short list of the best players in the world at her position, but they all are great people that have been a real credit to the program off the ice as well.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

You guys and gals should all go back and reread the posts from Jan 12th and into Jan 13th in this thread.

I don't know if I was the first to bring up the issue of the possibility of getting 3 Top 10 finalists and then also the IMPOSSIBILITY of getting all 3 into the Final 3. lol

It's an entertaining read just to see how we all knew we had a great team, and that all 3 of these gals deserved Top 3 status, but how it could never happen.

I've rarely been so happy to have been wrong about something like this. The posts started 20 pages back, in case your interested in rereading them.

So, I'll ask another question, do they have awards for things like Natl Freshman of the Year, or Goalie of the Year or Defenseman of the Year?

Also, what do you think Coach Frost's chances are of getting Coach of the Year?!

And if those are all awards players can win? Here's hoping for the CLEAN SWEEP!!!!!!

There are the All-America teams and USCHO has awards. I don't know that anyone has an national defenseman of the year or even goalie of the year, but if a goalie makes 1st team ...

Also, what do you think Coach Frost's chances are of getting Coach of the Year?!
Who is voting; UND fans? :( I'd guess he has the inside track at this point.

WCHA Awards should come out in the next day. I like the Gophers chances for Scoring Champ and Goaltending Champ.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

The All-WCHA First, Second, Third, and Rookie team awards are great, but I want to give a special call-out to the All-WCHA Academic Team honorees.

Criteria: To qualify for the All-WCHA Academic Team, student-athletes must have completed one year of eligibility at present institution, prior to the current academic year and have a GPA of at least 3.0 for the previous two semesters or three quarters.

Following, by team, are the 2012-13 All-WCHA Academic Team honorees. (*indicates repeat honoree)

University of Minnesota: Rachael Bona (So., F, Coon Rapids, MN), Megan Bozek (Sr., D, Buffalo Grove, IL), *Bethany Brausen (Jr., F, Little Canada, MN), *Samantha Downey (Sr., F, Hermantown, MN), *Katie Frischmann (Sr., D, Rochester, MN), *Baylee Gillanders (Jr., D, Kyle, SK), *Mira Jalosuo (Sr., D, Lieksa, Finland), *Amanda Kessel (Jr., F, Madison, WI), *Becky Kortum (Sr., F, Minnetonka, MN), Rachel Ramsey (So., D, Chanhassen, MN), *Noora Räty (Sr., G, Espoo, Finland), *Kelly Terry (Jr., F, Whitby, ON).

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Been quite a day for Gopher Women's Hockey.

Close enough for me now...Let's Go Gophers!

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Looking at all the selections...I don't see how anyone could question any of them. Of course we haven't heard from Whioux fans yet.

HA! No complaints, although its our turn to win forty something games in a row.

The one problem I had was that sure, it was great winning all of those awards, but on Friday, we have to play an OSU team that came to the WCHA Banquet and didn't get any recognition outside of the scholastic awards. After sitting there watching a ton of other people go up to accept awards, might they not feel they have something to prove? If I'm remembering correctly, Lauren Smith of MSU was the only member of a team that was seeded lower than fourth that made any of the ALL-WCHA teams. It was spread around a little more last year.
