Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Does anyone know if the Ramsey shot in the third period went in? Not only did the light go on and the horn sound, from where I was sitting I thought I clearly saw it make it to the back of the net and come out. By the time the next whistle came I could see the refs being really reluctant to put two minutes back on the clock in a 8-0 game.

Overall just a great performance by the Gophers this weekend. I thought Bemidji played really hard until the third goal went in today at which point the life just went out of them.

It was reviewed and confirmed - no goal.

More records falling tonight...

Megan Bozek -- New team record -- Most points by a defenseman in a single season (now at 52)

Noora Räty -- New NCAA record -- Shutouts in a single season (15) Also career shutout #41 for #41 :D

I understand that but my eyes said that the puck was very clearly in the net. So I want to hear from someone who has seen the replay that I trust more than the guys wearing orange arm bands.

We all thought it went in too. I'd like to know what happened there. I was hoping the recap would tell us. ARM, do you know?

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

I should also emphasize that *if* the refs thought it went in but decided that they didn't want to put two minutes back on the clock of a game that was 8-0 with just over three minutes left once there was a whistle I wouldn't really have a problem with it. The game was starting to get a bit chippy and I really just wanted it to be over more than I wanted it to be a 9-0 game with five minutes left.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Let's put Noora Rӓty's 41 career shutouts in perspective. An NCAA team can win a maximum of 41 games in a season. (They can play 42, but one of them would have to be a loss in the best-of-three first round of conference playoffs..) So Rӓty has an entire season of shutouts, a year with a 0.00 goals against average.

We were in the corner at that end, in the first row on the glass, and everyone all around us thought it went in. It was a rocket of a shot, and it appeared to hit that white plastic wrapping on the lower bottom of the net. The puck came out directly out at about the same speed that it went in. When they finally reviewed it we were all left wondering how the overhead camera didn't pick it up.

Excellent point in a well-crafted post.

Congrats to Noora on her remarkable accomplishment!

Congrats to Noora on her remarkable accomplishment!

Or, let's take a look at the rest of her career. Noora has played 7660:27 minutes in her career and allowed a total of 172 goals. What happens if we try to isolate her performance only in games in which she's allowed at least one goal. 41 games of regulation length would be 2460 minutes. Deduct that from her career total and recalculate her goals against average. If you do that, you get 1.98. So, if you ignore the best season's worth of games she's played, she still has a career GAA under 2.00.

For those keeping track, more records that Nora is on track to break before the end of the year:

Career save percentage: Nora - .946, current record - .942 (Kim Martin, UMD)
Single season save percentage: Nora - .956, current record - .955 (Christine Dufore, Wisc)
Single season win percentage: Nora - 1.000, current record - ..971 (Dufore)

Let's hope she doesn't come close to the single-game saves record which is now 90 set by Nicole Hensley of Lindenwood on Friday.
