Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

Any candidates mentioned or seen around Ritter in the last few weeks? Will be an important hire if he/she will be coaching forwards like Darwitz was. High expectations for the Gopher forwards with the returning core plus new talent like Lorence and Brandt(2012.)

I'm told that the date is wrong on Gophersports, and it will actually take place on 9/24 (Saturday, not Friday) as part of the PPC Face-Off Festival.

...and we still don't actually know what time the puck drops right?

In the morning -- there's a home football game that night, so we have to be cleared out by around noon.

Miss Flug...another Roseville Raider and a youngster to keep an eye on IMO, who I believe will draw widespread attention from many division I programs. Already has most likely.
Pretty sure she's already committed and I think you'll be happy.
Confirmation of Kate Flug's verbal commitment to Minnesota appears in this article on RosevilleReview.com. Her enrollment is two year's away, but I'm looking forward to watching her in maroon & gold.

Outstanding news indeed! Great to have one more excellent forward joining the team when that time comes...and eventually joining Miss Brandt. Encouraging to eventually add both to the mix with the fine 2011-2012 rookies up front...and considering the impending departure of several key forwards at the conclusion of the approaching championship season! :)

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

Great to see both Kessel and Schoullis have such a productive tournament! And in the game against Finland, it was interesting to see Kessel and Decker combining for that first goal - just like old times. :) I assume they're still good friends, except perhaps when the Gophers and Badgers square off? ;)

And it would be a VERY positive sign if Raty is the starting 'tender in Finland's final game against Sweden!

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

Team Finland has 4 goalies in roster. They split ice time equally. Noora will play Friday game againsta Sweden and Anna Vanhatalo Saturday game. On Sunday morning Noora will travel back to Minnesota via Reykjavik, Iceland.

Wasn't it a Decker check that knocked Kessel out of the Badger series last November with her shoulder injury? Wearing bags of ice can cause friends to grow apart.

Unless Amanda came to believe it was just "one of those things" (i.e. incidental contact) that happens in hockey and all is forgiven (i.e. time heals old wounds)...although as I recall the play in question may have involved a little more than "incidental" in which case you may be absolutely right! Either way, I'm sure both of them have a little extra motivation (i.e. something to prove?) when they line up against each other this year. ;)

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

During the 2010-2011 season there was a fair amount of discussion on the topic of whether Alyssa Grogan would take a red shirt season...I believe playing just three games, all prior to the middle of October...due to injury. Since she's listed strictly as a senior on the 2011-2012 roster that apparently was / is not the case. Would she not have been eligible to red shirt by playing those three games? Or maybe it's a personal...or staff choice not to go that route if the option was there?
During today's (9/1) Gopher Sports Day at the Minnesota State Fair, Alyssa introduced herself as a redshirt junior eligibility-wise. I don't think you can make it much more public than that. GopherSports.com still has her listed as a senior, but I'm sure that will be updated soon... (note that there have been some shifts in assignments in the Athletic Communications department at the U...)
