Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

During today's (9/1) Gopher Sports Day at the Minnesota State Fair, Alyssa introduced herself as a redshirt junior eligibility-wise. I don't think you can make it much more public than that. GopherSports.com still has her listed as a senior, but I'm sure that will be updated soon... (note that there have been some shifts in assignments in the Athletic Communications department at the U...)
Thanks CD. Wanted to get there myself but couldn't make it happen. Glad to hear the facts regarding Grogan. We all know what she's capable of when healthy. Glad for the chance to see more of that. If Alyssa returns to her form prior to her injury...I mean when that happens Gopher fans would have to be very happy with the goaltending situation. Great goaltending throughout the WCHA. Strength at that position is a must have.

Also, some schedule changes posted in that blog...

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

On Saturday, Sept. 24, we'll hold our exhibition game, the Maroon & Gold game. The exhibition will start at 10 a.m. and has free admission so we hope you'll come out to Ridder Arena to join us.
 :)

Really like that part! ;)

A little video material added to the blog.

Really looking forward to getting back in the building and watching some high quality entertainment!

Are you saying the action over in Blaine and other local hockey bistros this summer did not deliver the bang for your buck that you have come to expect from Coach Frost's maroon and gold clad troops? ;p

Oh no...wouldn't dare say such a thing. Especially when admittance was 100% free of charge.

Free parking too...and plenty of it!

The final scrimmage was very entertaining. I mentioned the impressive play and effectiveness of the line with Mo & Jo during that scrimmage, with a linemate that I couldn't ID...but the linemate most involved and effectively interactive with the twins out of any linemates I've ever seen play with Monique & Jocelyne. I asked a few at the scrimmage but no one knew who it was. Someone who reads the forum most likely knows. A complete guess by me would be either Decker or Coyne. Nice line whoever the mystery forward was.

;)

Please forgive my excessive, overuse of emoticons. :) :)

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

I may have missed it somehow, but it did appear the posting for the open asst. position is gone. Possible a replacement for Natalie has been chosen?

Minnesota Women's Hockey

Today is the last day of captain's practice. Tomorrow & Friday the team gets one hour of skills practice with the coaches before the first full-fledged official practice on Saturday. The season is upon us!
Would it be presumptuous to conclude an assistant has been added to the staff sans an official release regarding any hiring? Would be a good time to have a replacement for Natalie in place I would think.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

We'll have streaming video of our Maroon & Gold intrasquad exhibition on gophersports.com this Saturday at 10 a.m. - tune in!

Let's get started!

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

This is new is it not? Unfamiliar name to me.
Yes. Last year was the first time we had the same coach for two consecutive years since the days of Jeff Moen, and now it looks like we are back on the goalie coach merry-go-round. Not ideal.

Naturals for the Captains BTW.
As we had discussed before, hard to get this wrong from that senior class. Schlepper, Seeler, or West would all have been fine as well.

I thought West would wear a C for certain.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Off Season 2011

Summary of today's Maroon & Gold game on Gophersports. Don't believe the title, which says that Maroon won 3-2; Maroon led 3-1 after the "game", and then won the shootout 3-2. Gold had Noora, so that would have to make them a favorite, although Maroon did score first. More detail is available via the live blog from the game on Gophersports. Good to see the team back on the ice; unfortunately, a couple others were in the stands nursing injuries.
