Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Well there's that, but then again, according to the latest KRACH, they got outshot nearly two-to-one by a team that has 74 other Minnesota teams ranked ahead of them.

I mean, now your just piling on...:)

Speaking of piling on, To tease those poor hockey starved easterners there is a pretty decent matchup tonight at 7PM at Blake's arena (in Hopkins) between Blaine and Blake which will have 3 future Gopher recruits to watch if you care to attend. :)

And speaking of viewing future Gophers, Amy Potomak will be in town this weekend with her Pacific Steelers team for five games at Mariucci as part of the annual JWHL playing at Mariucci and Ridder.

The Steelers schedule....

Friday
9:00 a.m. vs. Washington Pride
7:15 p.m. vs. Boston Shamrocks

Saturday
7:00 a.m. vs. Ridley College
5:30 p.m. vs. North American Hockey Academy

Sunday
9:00 a.m. vs. Ridley College

again, all of the Steelers games are at Mariucci

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Oh that's funny, but I'm the first one to admit Wisconsin Girls HS Hockey is relatively unskilled when compared to rodentsota. Obviously that's why all the uber talented WI HS girls tend to play HS hockey elsewhere.

Thats true. Have we ever thanked you for sending that Kessel girl our way?

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

For those of us casual fans, would it be too much trouble to put the section #s next to the schools?

Thanks

Section Brackets are not out yet on Minnesota Girls Hockey Hub or the MSHSL website yet so I went based off of last years section brackets- hopefully there wasn't any changes since then.
I also tried Follow the Puck but they just have the boys. It wasn't easy since during the regular season standings they only list conferences not sections. Not sure when I'll get to the A schools since I have to leave soon.

...
Year after year, this is the most unfortunate part about the Class A bracket. In a tournament with at most three or four really good teams, two are in the same section.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

How can Cretin-Derham Hall & Edina be in the Section? At first glance, that looks like the ultimate gerrymander. Perhaps there's an interesting story to be told?

Cretin was in 4AA the year before last. Maybe to even out the number of teams per section? Not sure. Looking into it.
Those Section realignments were in March of 2015 according to the Stillwater Gazette.
Girls hockey (Section AA)

Hill-Murray, Irondale, Mounds View, North St. Paul, Roseville, Stillwater, Tartan, White Bear Lake and Woodbury.

Who’s in: Irondale, Mounds View and Woodbury.

Who’s out: Cretin-Derham Hall.

Section realignment: Who’s going where?
Published March 26, 2015 at 5:49 pm

“Every two years the MSHSL reclassifies teams into new competitive sections. Every school in the MSHSL reports new enrollments to the Minnesota Department of Education on Oct. 1,” stated the MSHSL via a news release. “The MDE releases these enrollments in early February and we take our current registrations and rank the teams by enrollment to put them into classes. Changes in enrollment, new programs and the formation or dissolution of cooperative agreements in the last two years lead to changes in the section assignments.”
“Normally, we try to make as few changes as possible, but every six years we are asked to start from scratch. This was a ‘start from scratch’ year,” the release added.

Once teams are assigned to enrollment classes, geography – and not competitive balance – determines where teams are placed, the MSHSL says. There is no appeal process for teams unhappy about where they were placed.

Recently the MSHSL released its competitive section assignments for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 school years.

Same thing happened in boys hockey... coaches wondering same thing, how Cretin was moved over.

Realignment swaps sections for powerhouses such as Edina, Eden Prairie

So given that, If you care to see the 1 vs 2 match up, they will likely meet in the section 5A final. I know that is where I plan to go...

Appreciate the rapid reply. All of that makes sense, and is more or less what I'd expect.

Except that in the case of CDH & Edina, geography seems to have been ignored.

Maybe I'm making too much of the Mpls./St. Paul distinction; I get that the mileage isn't large. I also realize that groupings of this nature will inevitably be imperfect. But the placement of CDH just seems geographically weird.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Here's another site that breaks down the teams by section and shows their "QRF" ranking:

Class AA: http://www.minnesota-scores.net./classstandings.php?yid=1617&sport=110&class=3
Class A: http://www.minnesota-scores.net./classstandings.php?yid=1617&sport=110&class=2

Note that it's the coaches - not any one ranking (LPH, KRACH, QRF, etc.) - that decide how the various teams in their section are seeded. How individual teams did within their section and "head-to-head" matter a lot.
