Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

So according to Bro Gin, since there's no video of MacW leaving the bench, it didn't happen? There's some sound reasoning.

And of course everyone left the bench after MacW did. You think anyone is gonna back down from the big, bad Sioux? Hells no.

Can't wait for tonight.

you're the only one that has brought this up. All I saw was Cepis gunning for Malone, which correctly warranted him a penalty.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

What is the standard amount of time you have to stay on the bench after the horn sounds? I can't wait for tonight either.

I believe if the locker room tunnel is connected to the bench, that no players are allowed to enter the ice after the horn is blown. Only the players that were playing are allowed to be on the ice. No more huddles around the goalie after each period. I think the rule changed after the sioux vs denver game a few years back, where players (radke) came back on the ice. But who knows with the wcha refs.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

The Gophers deserve two wins for beating the Sioux and refs. It's amazing how the Gophers always have the refs against them. I mean how dare the refs call penalties on the Gophers and miss ones on the Sioux? That's just not fair!

The Gophs get calls too. My big issue is that the refs gave the SUE every chance to get back into the game in the second period...hence controlling the game and not calling it fairly.

So, yeah, it just wasn't fair. :(

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

A few things...

• Before seeing the video, I assumed that we would have another thread of trying to explain boarding to Sioux fans, which can be as exhausting as trying to convince them that water is wet. But if that's boarding, it's the most borderline boarding penalty in the history of hockey.

It wasn't really even a matter of having his head down. He was screened by the ref and had his stance open at just the wrong time. Look at his feet. Any other foot positioning and he doesn't even fall down from that hit.

He wasn't very far from the boards and the Sioux player didn't charge. That can't be a penalty, or at worse, it's a minor and at that, a questionable call. Did someone say he should be suspended? C'mon.

One full stride, lunging motion, arms extended = BOARDING! Any violent hit into the boards is considered boarding + he knocked Wehr's helmet off...or is that not violent enough??

come on, it's UND, they break peoples necks, and cripple them for life on a regular basis, so this is nothing.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

Yeah, but there's a different kind of "hole" in the stands. :D

That hole might want to bring a megaphone. Calling Patterson a seive after giving up a no chance goal, didn't seem to rattle him with their normal voice.

Cry some more, Happy. It seems to be the only thing you are capable of doing.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

You hit a dude like that at the exact end of a period in WCHA hockey game and you're more likely than not to have a meeting of the minds. Whether it was clean, dirty or otherwise doesn't exactly matter.

There isn't a player on the ice at the end of a period that doesn't know there's less than 5 seconds. And I'm not saying anyone should stop playing before the buzzer here. Just that the Sioux player knew how much time was on the clock and he knew a big hit would help to rally his teammates before the period break. So he was looking to provide that.

I have seen plenty of similar hits get whistled for boarding in the WCHA over the years.

And btw ... the moaning from ND fans about Cepis is lovely. Please continue with that ...
