Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

Its really hard to judge Murray on two starts without knowing who had the flu the past few weeks. Anyone who has watched DU hockey for any length of time knows that Saturday nights with the flu usually equals disaster.

I've seen DU's National Championship teams fold like an accordion against Tech or UAA when the flu bug hits town.

Its also possible that Murray had the flu.

If he goes Saturday, a big game won't surprise me.

I think Murray will and should go Saturday unless Chevy's shut out streak is still going. And then....

Remember last year, Chevy was the big question mark. I'd say he turned out OK:D The team needs to work as hard for Murray, "The Fury", as it does for Chevy. Hope he has a new helmet by now. Preferably one with Boone!

It was mid-December before Paulgaard got his helmet last year, so I'd say the Denver Cup is probably the first we'll see of Murray's new lid. This is obviously a really busy time of year for goalie mask designers.

If there are any Mavs fans who will be at the game this weekend, post where you'll be pre-gaming.

I like how he got the old Pioneer mascot that the DU administration deems "offensive." Way to both go old school and stick to the man you pays your scholly!

I think you're right. And I think the outcome Friday is probably irrelevant. If Chevy gets another SO he can continue his streak the following week. It would be a matter of "consecutive games" vs. "consecutive starts" and if he gets it up to four and beyond, nobody will care.

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

Here we go again.:D

Unless Chevy gets a shutout, I expect Murray to start. Double or nothing Sat. night?

My betting advisor tells me I shouldn't place such a serious bet, with so many contingencies involved. Plus, you're not even going to be in town to redeem your beers, are you?

If you're buying, I'm in town.

Just coming in for Sat. nite only.

DU Game Notes

From the DU game Notes on Colborne
Forward Joe Colborne is questionable this weekend after breaking his index finger on his left hand at Ohio State on Oct. 16. Colborne missed his first two collegiate games last weekend at Minnesota. Forward Dustin Jackson is out for the season with a broken leg.

This conflicts with Mike Chambers report in the Denver Post that says Colborne is playing. My guess is Big Joe is playing.

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

As we know, captain Geoff Irwin will be out for the series courtesy of Wisconsin's Craig Smith. This is the first source I've seen that describes the upper body injury as his shoulder. Hopefully, he will be able to return after the bye week.

In assessing possible outcomes for the weekend, the fact that the team will be missing their captain concerns me the most. Troy Jutting's teams, in my humble opinion, are teams that need strong player leadership to thrive/survive. I haven't heard if Irwin will be on the trip? I hope so. This will also be a good opportunity for assistant captains Channing Boe and Kael Mouillierat to step up--especially Boe, being the Junior assistant captain and [yes, already*] looking to next year.

*Not in a bad "let's give up hope" way as it is too early for that, but in a "you've got to always be thinking year-to-year for the health of the organization" way :D :)

Very doubtful that any team would bring an injured player along. Irwin is allowed to pay his own way in airfare, hotel and food, but it is pretty rare for a player to do that.

NCAA rules limit the traveling party and teams are only allowed two spare players. Most teams bring along an extra forward and a defenseman in case of an injury or to rotate in on Saturday night.

I think standard operating procedure is to be as vague about injuries as possible, which is why the Freep described it as "an upper-body injury" but Irwin's right shoulder was hanging about a foot lower than his left when he skated off the ice. Anybody that could potentially care could probably figure it out.

Irwin won't make the trip. They can only take 22 guys and they need the two extras in case somebody gets hurt Friday.

That is what I figured; a little bit after I posted the question I remembered something about a team policy or NCAA rules--I wasn't sure which :o :)

I didn't see him skate off the ice and was distracted by the extra curriculars as that was right down in front of where we were sitting. Staying back in Mankato makes sense; it is best to stay home and heal.

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

Just tried to go to Lets Go Mavs blogspot and received message that its "by invitation only." Says contact author, but no way to contact author.

Do any Mavs fans know how to get access for those of us who are uninvited?

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

Any chance the games get rescheduled this weekend? Pretty nasty weather apparently, and the Mavs are scheduled to fly in on Thursday. Keep an eye out for related news.

I wouldn't expect a problem. 'Course I'm in Phoenix, what the h*** do I know? :)

The snow should be slowing down today here in Denver, and sunny and 40s/50s temps are expected for the weekend. Most roads in the Denver metro area are snowpacked but passable, although there is over a foot accumulated.

I would expect the Mavs to make it into Denver by tonight. The snow crews at the airport here are state of the art and used to the snow, and I don't see them closing the airport.
