Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

Game 2 tonight at 7PM MT. Pay videocast and audiocast at www.denverpioneers.com. No TV.

Get well soon Chevy. I would expect minor, if any, changes to the DU line-up tonight except Adam Murray will be in goal for DU.

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

The difference in the game last night was DU's third line. MSUM had prepared very well for Denver, using a very effective forecheck to bottle up the Pios at time, and were it not for Chevy's goaltending, might have been able to bulild an early lead. But Denver's depth wore down MSUM a bit, and DU had the majority of of the possession play as the game wore on. That said, MSUM is faster than I expected, and they play physical. Such physical play is an issue for a DU team that, without Ryder and and Jackson in the lineup, lacks the same level of physical play.

Chevy's injury is a huge concern at this point, but those things are part of the game. At least it came after he set the shutout minutes record, but he was the hottest goalie in the country at that point, and it remains if that level will be recovered post injury.

Sackrisan always seems to play well against the Pioneers, and he's a guy DU needs to put a little more emphasis on containing.

Tonight is a crucial game - DU needs to step up, and Murray needs to step in and get the job done.

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

If by turning things around, you mean that MSU joining Colorado College in a 52 year National Championship drought, I'm all for it.

Well, they've had a pretty late start at DI, but they're on their way. I'm all for it, too...Go Mavs!

It was funny watching Ruegsegger's little 'favorite color' interview during the game last night. His 'favorite team to beat': CC. Ha! Ruegsegger's record vs. CC: 1-7-4! I hope he enjoyed that one three years ago! :p

On a serious note: Best wishes to Marc Cheverie for a quick recovery. Hate to see anyone get hurt. Congrats to him on that shutout streak...Minnesota showed last night that Cheverie's and DU's accomplishment last weekend was no fluke. Good luck to our fellow Colorado WCHA compatriots...except for a couple of weekends... ;)

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

It will be interesting to see how Denver adjusts to the relentless forecheck of MSUM. I think they need to probably adjust the breakout at the very least, and perhaps adjust on the backcheck and gap control to slow MSUM down before they can bottle DU up in the zone.

DU is a transition team, and the first pass out of the zone is critical for them to dictate flow and possession.

I might put Brookwell or Ryder back in there for Phillips for tonight for a more physical presence against a very physical MSUM team.

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

Got to see most of last nights game a I was pretty impressed with the Mavs...well played game for them. Hope Chevy will be OK... never want to see that happen to a kid.

Mavs fan who was at Magness last night. Good clean and up-and-down game played by both teams (A Jutting team playing a clean game--what?). MSU had a good forecheck for most of the game but, indeed, they did get worn down in the end. Mavericks had a TERRIBLE power play! Cheverie is as advertised--great stops early in the 1st to stop a puck in the slot and also forcing a Mavs shot to the outside post. Harrison took a stupid tripping call with less than 2 min left that really hurt MSU's chances to get the tie late. Austin Lee looked really good except for, in my opinion, two soft goals.

Looking forward to the game tonight--hope the Mavs can take advantage of the freshman in net (best wished to Chevy--hope he's OK).

Here are the places pre/post game DU fans tend to frequent:

- Jordan's (Corner of Evans and University)
- The Pioneer (University Blvd 2 blocks south of Evans)
- Stadium Inn (Evans Ave, 2 blocks west of University(
- Spanky's Roadhouse (Accross from Stadium inn on Evans)
- Campus Lounge (University Blvd about a mile North of campus)

Re: Minn. State @ Denver. Halloween weekend

Looks like both games were pretty good this weekend. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for the mavs.
