Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

Google directs each persons search the the closest engine in their area. Therefore, CHATJ received Michigan when he did it as he is from Michigan. You received Minnesota because you live in Minnesota.

Well it looks like everyone else in the world gets Minnesota, regardless of proximity to the two.

Whole new ice surface this weekend in Fort Wayne. I'm actually glad the boards are "dead." After watching the games in JLA last week and some of the crazy bounces I'll be glad to see something closer to the norm.

Just a quick note....the Miami RedHawks "playoff mullets" are gone. I've seen Hirschfeld and Wingels walking around campus and the mullet has been chopped. I'm going to take this as a positive haha

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I'm gonna miss Hirsch's.

I am in no way arguing against Michigan being the true UM (don't forget, I started this argument against a minny resident). You can go anywhere in the world and easily find Michigan-friendly bars, restaurants or see people wearing Michigan clothes or hear "Go Blue". Michigan is everywhere, minnesota not so much (other than in Minnesota).

And people wonder why Michigan people have an ego...

I agree with this alot. But I think it is Big Ten Schools have bars all over! Well certain Big Ten Schools! Like Chicago, Austin, and DC have Michigan State Bars. I would say that Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan State have a very widely spread Fan base through out the United States. Great education in the Big Ten leads to jobs spread out all over!!!!

Ah yes, as that has any bearing whatsoever on opinions.

I'd try to contribute to the conversation, but I'm not sure if any GLIAC voice would be heard either. ;)

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

As excited as I am to have the Beavers in the WCHA next year it kind of saddens me to know that there is going to be a much higher learning curve set for them to succeed. No more beating up on CHA teams and getting that automatic bid to the tourney. I think getting in four out of the last five years has put Bemidji State on the map and has helped with recruting, confindence, and fan base. But I don't expect great success for the Beavers in the near future being in the Toughest conference in college hockey. But what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and hopefully that's what indeed happens. So I hope this year we make another push deep into the tourney to help with the transistion. I just believe winning and success breeds confidence something we will need alot of next year. Let's get it done Bevs!!

You don't hear those two things next to each other in the same topic very frequently. Michigan State and Great education that is...

sparty is a party school plain and simple. It is ranked dead last in the Big Ten for its education for a reason. But isn't it ironic that they have one of the better secondary education programs out there. It gives more credence to the phrase: "Those who can do. Those who can't teach."

The conversation isn't worth contributing to anyway, but I'll go ahead and do so.... :D

This is based on what, your statistical sample of 1?

As I've said before on such a topic, I can tell you that Maryland is not U of M...we just call it College Park. Sometimes when I'm back in Maryland I need to remember to clarify U of M is Michigan because people will sometimes look at me confused wondering what school I'm referring to (they do not automatically assume Maryland)

As you know they did not receive an automatic bid this year yet they are still in the Tournament. And a #2 seed at that!

Thus my "frame of reference" comment holds water...

But frequently U of M is Michigan.

Bemidji has already played plenty of games against WCHA teams. I'm not sure there's going to be much learning curve. My guess is they'll be able to compete with the teams as they did this year. They just won't have an easier conference to win. And remember, at the very least, you can still beat up on Michigan Tech and UAA.

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

The ironic thing about this whole argument is that people in Minnesota don't actually call the University of Minnesota "the U of M" but rather "Da U." This name, as many of our Redhawk friends can sadly attest, is most assuredly already taken by somebody else.

They don't call it "Da U"! Michael Irvin was big in "The U"! That ESPN video about "The U" was funny, watching all of the old T-Down dances! Oh I wish they allowed celebation in College Football! It already has so much more drama (good drama) and passion over Pro, now we just need the dancing!

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

Instead of 3 timeouts a period, as in any NHL or regular-season college game, they give us 4. Instead of 1:30 as in the NHL, or 1:00 as in regular-season college games, they take 1:45. So there is 7 minutes of down time per period, instead of 3 to 4.5 minutes.

And what will make this more ridiculous and have folks watching on TV screaming by the middle of the second period is the number of times they'll see some variant of the "there are 400 billion student-athletes in the NCAA, and most of them will be going pro in something other than sports..." It's one thing for the NFL to add a little time between quarters and during the game when advertisers are lined up to shell out $3MM for 30 seconds of TV time, but will ESPN even be able to sell all the time available? Or will most TV breaks be made up of various public service announcements, spots for ESPN, and the occasional paid advertisement?

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

Other than the obvious Miami of Ohio crap, my biggest peeve is when ignorant people mix up Ohio State and Ohio University....everyone knows it's the Ohio Buckeyes! Roommate does it all the time and it ****es me off.

Re: Midwest Regional, Miami vs. Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State vs. Michigan

It could be worse, we could be subjected to the same Ameritel Copiers commercial two times every commercial break like we are when the Caps are on CSN.
