Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

I really don't want to do this, but...

You guessed it:
2005-06 - Billy Sauer

I'm hoping for something more along the lines of Turco and Montoya (both solid Frozen Four teams) than the latter. '95 and '03 could easily have been championships, and goaltending was not a weakness.

Starting to get excited for the season. It's remarkable how excited I get for college hockey after a six-turnover football game.

Sauer's problem was Jack Johnson. If Billy had a bad night, or looked to have a bad night- he was on his own. Steve, Marty, or Al- the team would be there to crack down on D to keep thier heads in the game. I really hated how Jack and co treated Billy- so you always knew that a shaky start would turn into a bad night.

IMHO.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

I think losing Chris Brown is a big factor.

With all due respect to Shawn, IMHO Brownie is the biggest loss.

Michigan has to show me that they have fixed their special teams, settle in on a goaltender and get steady production from their top lines.

The job is Rutledge's to lose. He will be given every opportunity. I don't see any sort of rotation looking for the regular like we had a couple of years ago.

Go to MGoBlue.com and watch the "Inside Michigan Hockey" with Red and Doug Karsch for Red's perspective.

Billy was nowhere near as highly regarded coming in as Rutledge is. Billy was more a "Typical Freshman". Rutledge is regarded as a difference maker.

Is anyone going to the season ticket holder open house this Sunday?
You should have received an email today.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

The open house is also for general public.......

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

With all due respect to Shawn, IMHO Brownie is the biggest loss.

Brown's importance went beyond goal scoring. He was a big physical force, something that is lacking now- even with some of the size being added from the freshmen class, and Guptill. Who do we have on the roster that can not only undress a guy like Will Weber, but then go toe to toe with him after his douschbaggery? Nobody, unless someone like Kevin Lynch steps up- but he already spends too much time in the penalty box for stupid acts.

Hunwick was the most important guy on most nights and was a proven commodity, but in terms of goaltending, if Rutledge or Racine can't stop the puck then we are hooped. So, I think that both were important for different reasons.

I saw it last week. I can always ask Red, too, if I want to get stared down. ;)

I think both goaltenders will get a shot, but I agree, Rutledge is the guy that will get the most opportunity.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Mixed opinion on Yost updates. Seating was moved away from glass, changing seats or pushing patrons back. Not a good thing for most folks. Otherwise it is nice. I'd rather be closer to the game and deal with wooden benches than the seat changes though.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Seating was moved away from glass, changing seats or pushing patrons back.

That is in the end zones. I picked up a flyer at the pro shop where it said something about additional wheel chair accessible seating and also some premium seating in the corners. It also looked like there is some collapsible bleachers (like in most high schools gyms) in the north end zone.

My front row blue line seats are right where they always have been. Well almost. I moved about two seats toward center ice. Now instead of right on the blue line I'm in the neutral zone. It was a little hard to tell but with the new entrance configurations they might be a little lower. I didn't count the steps but I had to go up some then down some. It seemed like the difference was less than what I had to go up in previous seasons. Also I used to be able to wrap the middle of my fingers over the top of the glass. Now my fingers stop about 6" below the top. So unless they made the glass higher my seat is lower.

Checking out the seats behind me it seems like every row has additional knee room between that row and the one in front of it.

The new flooring will make the place significantly louder when fans stomp their feet.

The scoreboard is higher, probably about the 10 feet they talked about last year. It was nice and bright with the new windows allowing light in. However that won't make any difference during games.

I went up to the old press box to check out the new suites. VERY NICE but W-A-Y out of my price range.

The collapsible bleachers in the North end are not new. They collapse them down for pretty much anything other than M hockey. Things like open skates and broomball, people will enter the ice from the North end where the team does...but access it from where those bleachers fold out to.

I missed the open house this weekend, figuring an extra week to see the changes will be fine. I like the windows. I don't like metal bleachers. But it's still Yost and I'll love it.

One thing you will like, I think, is a dedicated location for the band. The SE corner is a dedicated location for the bad, including a spot for the director. It seemed small at first, but when we got up to it, there's a lot of space there. What I don't like about it- there's almost no place below it to stand and listen to the bad between periods (assuming they don't allow you in the seating area along the ice).

A lot of the changes are pretty nice. But it's pretty clear that it's still Yost. What I really am looking forward to- how do you make the ice THAT BRIGHT at night. And I think there are some plans to make it close- many of the new lights were not on at all.

Nice to see the scorebaord up as they mentioned it would be, and it will be interesting to hear the new sound system. Please, please, please DO NOT PIPE IN OUTSIDE MUSIC DURING THE GAME. Warm up is fine- as the team likes it. But the band is there for a reason- and the fans don't need help. And drop that stupid horn- can't hear the fight song when we score.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

I was going to say, I sit in the north end (now sec 24) and it is different, but the site angle is still pretty decent.

Joe, some long time ticket holders got move drastically- some up, further away from the ice, some with obstructed views etc. Not a good thing for the prices these days or the dedication these people have had. Not sure if it is only restricted to the end zones, either. Overall, the opportunity to add more premium seats and handicap areas came at the expense of the long, long time season ticket holders.

One of the first comments I saw on twitter was that the CoY were not happy with the first three rows of bleachers being taken away, so they are not on the glass anymore.

Yep, nice area for the band, and the acoustics seem to be amplified. We'll see how this plays out with a full house.

I agree one thousand percent, except for the part about the horn. IF the person running it is paying attention he/she can hit it a couple of times while the band is getting together to start playing. It does take a couple of seconds for everyone to get their instrument in place and ready to start together in the meantime the horn could go off a couple of times AS LONG AS THE PERSON RUNNING IT IS ON THE BALL.

Do not get me started on their abuse of loyal, dedicated long time season ticket holders. What they did in Crisler this year is criminal. After over 30 years of supporting the program in some very lean times when they could not give away tickets (think early in Frieder's career, Ellerbe, Amaker). I started the year Orr went to Iowa State. I believe that makes this season #33. I got moved from sideline row 13 (2/3 up lower bowl) to corner row 24 (3 rows up in upper bowl). I challenge you to find someone with similar dedication who was treated as shabbily. Heaven help us when they bring the PSD to Yost.

Chuck Minthorn USED to sit several rows up directly behind me (formerly section F, later 6, now 3) - I saw him yesterday and he told me he was moved to the other end to new sect. 5. The biggest part of the reduction in capacity came from the widening of the aisles. On my side it looks like each section lost 2 seats per row.

I'm hoping to get season tickets soon. Really hoping to get them next year for the first season in the B1G.

I'm so ready for the season to start. 6 days away! Well, the Blue-White game is in 6 days. The exxy is next Tuesday.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Speaking of tickets, ours came on Saturday. Right now, we miss one game for sure, and maybe one other- but the rest, very cool.

Ditto - mine arrived Saturday as well. I got an email Friday saying they were mailed and sure enough the next day was just like Christmas.

I found it interesting the Miami, Notre Dame and Sparty games had "Premium" pricing but not the Broncos.
