Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

David Brandon said at the M Club today that the Yost renovation is on track and the ice will start going back in next week!
:)

I drove by Yost today, it looks nice! I'm even more excited for the season!

Just a few changes here for the student fans.

Athletic Department revamps hockey ticketing policies

By Matt Slovin, Daily Sports Editor
Published August 31, 2012

Roughly five weeks before the Michigan hockey team begins its season, the Athletic Department announced major changes to its hockey ticket policies Friday.

Student tickets will no longer be printed and distributed. Rather, they will be included on students' MCards. Students will swipe their MCards at the arena's gates, and will be handed a voucher for a spot in the student section.

Also, as at the Crisler Center, seating will be first-come, first-serve. According to the Athletic Department release, the change was made to boost "convenience," as well as "to create an early exciting atmosphere at Yost (Ice Arena)."

Students are able to give the ticket on their MCards to fellow students, but in order for non-students to use the ticket, there will be a $20 "validation fee" required.

The release also mentioned the renovations that have been ongoing at Yost this summer. In addition to new bench seating on three ends of the arena, the main windows have been replaced to allow natural light to enter. The release also announced "improvements in the audio capabilities within Yost through cutting edge technology" and renovated concession stands and concourses

I guess the "improvements in the audio" mean we folks in the South end will be able to hear/ understand the PA!

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Just stopped by Yost this morning- quite the change that has happened over there- most of the glass is in- and it looks spectacular! We can see that the east and west stands are pretty much all in, too. The luxury boxes look rather interesting, too- the big job at the moment appears to be the press boxes well above those. Too bad we didn't take a camera.

My seats are on the blue line, penalty box side, and you cannot understand ANYTHING there so it is not just on the south end.

THREE ENDS?????

Did they turn it into a triangle?????

AAers: I have a request for advice!

I'm flying in a group of USAFA cadets for Saturday's game and I've got to make hotel reservations for my crew. Where would you suggest? We're landing close enough to stay in Ann Arbor (Ypsilanti airport), which is great. Proximity to the stadium and/or bars is desired, and price is also a factor, but not so much that I'll have to stay at "Ed's Bed & Shave" or some place like that.

Unfortunately it's late notice, and I've got until Thursday afternoon (tomorrow) to gather any info you might provide.

Finally: Should I wear my Michigan hockey home whites, or my Air Force stuff?

Thanks for the help!

There's really not much in the way of hotels downtown/on campus, and what little there is has probably already been booked. There's three main blocks of hotels near campus (3-5 mile range). One is State and I-94, one is Washtenaw and US-23, and one is Plymouth and US-23. No idea what availability is like on this short notice. Hopefully you're renting a car. If not, you'll have no problem getting to the game by city bus or football shuttle, but you'll probably need a cab/shared ride/etc. to get back (city buses don't run very late, especially on a Saturday, and the football shuttles back to the hotels only runs an hour after the game).

On the way from Willow Run (the airport you will be landing at) to AA, there's the Ypsi Marriott- not to far south of I94- but, like kdilks, I suspect that finding a hotel room on this short notice will be tough. Here are some hotels listed from Trip Advisor- hope you can find room on such short notice.

YOU should wear your Michigan home whites. Your cadets better be either in uniform, or decked out in Air Force colors. Be proud to be the opposition.

I agree with alfa on this one. Also, what the others said on hotels, there's not much on campus or near the stadium and what there is in Ann Arbor is probably already booked. Good luck! A quick check on Kayak looks like the Fairfield Inn in A2 has some rooms. I would avoid the "Victory Inn & Suites" on my side of Ann Arbor. As far as proximity to bars...I can't think of any that are stumbling distance to good bars that would have vacancy.

If you have time, you should stop by where I tailgate and say "hi". Although, it'll probably be much more difficult to find me at a home football game than say, a hockey game in Anchorage.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

kdilks, alfablue, & wT: Thanks for the help! Early & busy morning this AM - so please don't let the brevity of my response hide the depth of my appreciation!

wT: Where/when do you tailgate? I can't promise attendance, because word is we'll have to fly (local) tomorrow morning, but I expect to be down before gametime, hopefully before 11:00.

If I don't see you, enjoy the visit and the game!
Sorry I missed this! We got a patio table at the Quickie Burger at State & Hill and ended up homesteading there until the game started. Luckily they didn't run out of Newcastle Brown Ale, although we downed so many pitchers that it took the roar of a B-2 flyover to remind us to get to the game!

It was great to be in Ann Arbor again.

Glad you had a good time.

Now you just need to come back for a hockey game (or several).

Yes, please do. Looks like I have my same seating this year, also.

Sounds like Michigan will be relying on AJ, PDG and Guptill for their up front offense this season with hopes that Kevin Lynch and Derek DeBlois can have better offensive output. The freshmen will be a ? and the defense should be even more aggressive offensively.

I dunno, with a core group of grinders and a new goal tender... I would think the emphasis would be lessen the shots on goal and buckle down defensively. Just me, though.

Jim, I may be way off base here but my perception of past history is that Red will MAKE them place an emphasis on defensive responsibility to round out their abilities and enhance their chances for success, both while at M and after. I suspect that is part of the reason some of the "Prima Donnas" we have had in the past left early.

several weeks later....Coach said at the Dekers picnic yesterday that ice will go in this week!

I hope this estimate isn't 3 weeks off.
