Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Too bad for Michigan Piotrowski isn't still on the ice, he ALWAYS favored you guys. Does he and Red still play golf together?

Dude, after your team collapsed, you have no business chirping over here. Not even the Big Ten would have helped that epic fail.

BTW, Pi was in the booth tonight reviewing video. Based on what I saw, his favoritism didn't influence anything tonight.

Actually thought the refs were pretty good tonight. Let the players play and only called what they needed to. And what do you know...the result was an instant classic. Heroic effort by both teams, great goaltending and a really nice goal to end it. I expect we'll see more of the same tomorrow.

Agreed. I also was very pleased to see that the Irish weren't running Hunwick. I suspect that the refs talked to the teams beforehand and warned that there would be a short leash on that.

Except they didn't call Tynan for running into Hunwick prior to the tying goal being scored and numerous other interference calls both ways. Aside from that, I agree and Wilkins is a toad regardless. At least McInchak gives the COY candy.

... and on top of that, Michigan drops in the PWR to 3rd.

It was the TUC part of the comparison with UMD that flipped that comparison. We have now played 30 games (17-9-4) against TUC, they have only 18 (10-5-3) so a win by both improved their TUC percentage by more. It is now .6389 vs. .6333. Another win tonight by both will increase that margin.

You might say we get penalized for playing a tougher schedule. We have one less win against TUC than they have games played against TUC.

Yeah, he really showed his bias when the non-goal (I think it was a Wohlberg shot) was reviewed. From my seat I originally thought it went off the top of the crossbar. Wohlberg was sure it went in. McInchak went to the booth and waved it off.

You give Wilkins too much respect. When I saw him on the ice for warmups I thought - well I can't post what I really thought.

The guy skates with a scowl, as if he has a plunger up his bunghole. The noncall when Michigan was on the PP (ND deliberately lifting the net) was brutal and he was right there in front of me to see it.

I saw that and it makes sense. Either way, I like the pairings scenario as a #3 seed right now in GB.

IF we play downtown next weekend, my guess is that we'll have another crack at two more TUC teams unless BG crashes the party. We'd take them on in the semi's if they advance, while Miami (I don't see Sparty winning two games in Oxford now) will take on either Lake State or WMU.

Otherwise, if Ferris regroups, they'd play Miami or LSSU and we'd either get WMU or Miami.

I'm sure the same thing goes for Duluth since the WCHA tourney will probably have all TUCs in their semis and final, also.

Any team can claim officiating bias at just about any time, which is ludicrous. Wilkins is from Ft Wayne and, based on Buckeye logic, that would make him favor the Irish. McInchak is a cop from Brownstown Twp, so he'd favor Michigan, right? And let's not forget that several of our officials, including our head of officials, played at various CCHA schools like Ferris and MSU.

I don't know if that is what happened as Minnesota State is not and was not a TUC.

You'd have to take that up with Mrs.Hockeybuckeye. Detroit born & Michigan raised and she's wearing her Michigan hockey jersey saying I'm good to go on this thread. lol!!

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Good luck next weekend. Depending how things seed tomorrow night if you guys end up playing Miami please feel free to hammer them.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

We wouldn't get Miami until the second night. If tOther OSU upsets FSU, we get them. If FSU comes back and wins game 3, we get WMU.

Is it me, or does it seem that whenever UM moves up in the PWR to say 1 or 2, Minnesota moves down to 8 or 7. And when UM moves down to 3 or 4, Minnesota moves up to 6 or 5?

Yeah, I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that Michigan is going out there. Don't even want to get my hopes up.

You missed the bulge in my cheek from my tongue. The ruling on the ice was no goal. When Wohlberg protested and McInchak went to the monitor after talking on the phone presumably with Pi he took only a few seconds to uphold the original ruling. If Pi was as biased as certain people seem to think he would have either taken a lot longer looking at it or even over ruled the on ice ruling.

Without multiple replay capabilities, I'm sure they didn't have much to look at anyway.

For the praise we gave McInchak and Wilkins on Friday, they were more noticeable on Saturday. Too many ticky tack calls and some mind blowing misses, like Kevin Lynch nearly being decapitated by a high stick that somehow evaded 4 pair of eyes- not to mention the Hunwick bump late in the game while ND was on a cheap PP chance.

Kudos to the PK unit both nights- spectacular. Really strong defensive game and the Seniors led the way.
