Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

I just find it amusing. Actually I'm half Wolverine by birth as Dad was born & raised in Michigan and other family members are U of M alum, Ferris, Western and I never heard anyone in Michigan, family or otherwise call Ohio State just Ohio before Brady Hoke did and I'm on Michigan's campus numerous times a year talking with coaches in other sports and they always say Ohio State. Just throwing it out there. See everyone at the Joe in a week and a half!

Yea I don't really get why it gets such a reaction, it seems to me like "Ohio" and "Ohio State" used to be fairly interchangeable for Buckeye fans pre-Hoke. I mean the cheer is O-H-I-O right? Not really a conversation for the Michigan thread anyway.

Instead I'll offer my thoughts about Hunwick not being first-team All-CCHA:

I hear you about Hunwick, he sure looked rock solid the times I saw him.

I would just like to point out that a great many of your schoolmates were cheering on your most bitter rival to share a Big Ten title with you. That can't have been good for your collective souls.

I can't speak for everyone, but I wasn't cheering on my most bitter rival. I was cheering for MSU to lose. I don't do it often, but if it benefits Michigan, I have no problem with that.

Interesting point. When it comes to two rivals playing each other if you can't bring yourself to cheer for one to win then you cheer for one to lose. Lesser of two evils? lol! I generally have no problem for cheering for a rival in hockey who've advanced in the NCAA tourney as I look at it more as supporting my conference than a particular rival although I admit it's difficult if said rival ended our season.

The CCHA can suck my ***. How can the statistically best goalie that played in almost 7 full more games, not be the first team goalie? It isn't like he is a Hobey candidate... I cannot wait for the B1G. Burn in Hell in CCHA with your gongshow refs. I would rather deal with Badger fans than be under the rule of the CCHA.

You had me up until you mentioned Badger fans. I have been to almost every rink in the CCHA (never been to Ferris) and have never been treated as bad as I have been treated the three times I went to Wisconsin. Badger fans can burn in hell.

The only thing Badger fans have thrown at me are insults. I've had things thrown at me physically in all the D1 rinks in Ohio. Well, not the new Goggin...but the old Goggin. Don't even get me started on the horseshoe.

I'm more concerned with gopher fans. Is there room for arrogant fans from two schools referring to themselves as UM in one conference?

Anyway, yes the Hunwick snub is lame, but so are CCHA player awards. Can't wait to go to the Joe and see the offensive based highlight reel for the player winning best defensive defenseman.

the worst I have been treated was at the Culver Classic. Screw the badgers.

The coaches in this conference are inept at picking this stuff. Jeff Jackson goes 1st/9th/2nd so he's Coach of the Year last year over a guy who dragged a dead program to Detroit for the first time in 17 years and the NCAA's in 15. Now when Notre Dame plays to their talent level next year and places 1st or 2nd after finishing 8th this year, they'll give Jackson another farking trophy.

Going into double overtime at this point. WHY couldn't this game be streamed? I have money, I would have gladly paid to watch this one!

The first OT was crazy. Michigan controlled the puck more, but both teams were skating fast and trying to win, lots of shots, lots of chances the whole time. Exciting, stressful.

Michigan comes out with the W.

Most intriguing game of the season. Both teams/goalies played their hearts out. McInchak wasn't too bad, Wilkins blows goats.

I still see this thing maybe going three games... and on top of that, Michigan drops in the PWR to 3rd.

Looks like a lot of great hockey left in this series. Saturday's game is televised and I don't have anything carried by Comcast. Curse you Time Warner!
