Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Additionally, I'd rather play miami than sparty any day. Regardless, either match-up wouldn't happen until the CCHA Final anyway (probably).

A semifinal matchup is POSSIBLE, but unlikely. That would require Western to lose their 2nd round series against the ohio v Notre Dame winner. It wouldn't be earth shaking but an upset none the less.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

If there is an upset, we could get the ohio vs ND winner. We split with both during the year. Anybody prefer any team above another? I don't see anyone that we dominated really, with maybe the exception being osu at Progressive Field. The 2 @ Yost I thought they outplayed us and deserved the sweep that weekend.

Thus why I said "probably"...

I would rather play tOhio. They outplayed us when we were slumping earlier in the year, but in the second series, with Merrill, we looked much better. Notre Dame is always scary with Jeff Jackson behind the bench.

Bottom line is that whoever we play will only be a couple of points behind us in the CCHA standings. It will not be an easy series.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

tOSU has really slumped. They have only won 1 game since the first of the year, 1-9-4. I remember how discouraged I was when we went winless for 7 games. 5 of those 7 were one goal games. Only the Union and NU games were big losses, and the boys had turkey on the brain then.

When was the last time we missed going to the D?

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Who do we want to win tomorrow? Bowling Green or Northern? I say Northern because if BGSU wins we get Notre Dame right? Northern wins we get LSSU.

That's correct right?

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Good luck to you guys next weekend. The finals at the Joe wouldn't be the same without Michigan there.

Near the end of the 2 period NMU losing 3-1 to BGSU. Which game would FSD air? MSU vs Miami or UM vs ND?

FSD is not carrying a game this weekend Comcast is but i would guess UM/ND will be the one that they carry.

It's now 4-1 for Bowling Green with less than 7 minutes remaining. It's looking like a Notre Dame vs. Michigan series at Yost.

YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAWWWWWWWW!!!!

See you guys there.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Our choices coming into the night were Ferris, who made us look like a club team a couple of times this season, or Michigan, where we've had some of the ugliest playoff losses I think any CCHA team has suffered. 13-2, 8-1, 10-1. Those ring a bell with anyone?

The games earlier this season were close, well played games. It was two nights of good hockey. Michigan will certainly have the edge, but I expect two (maybe three?) more close, well played games. My head tells me Michigan will move on to the Joe and Notre Dame's season will end next weekend. But we'll make you earn it.

The smart $$$ is on M/ND. More fans oh both schools live in FSD's viewing area. Miami isn't in FSD's viewing area (either is ND but there are many IGA Irish in Michigan)...

That's what scares me, good luck (but not too much)...

If Michigan and Michigan State both make it to the finals it will certainly mean a packed house at the Joe. Anyone rooting for BG, the conference underdog next weekend?

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

So, just out of curiosity, when was the last time Michigan did not make it to the Joe for the CCHA final four, and has a Michigan team coached by Red ever lost a playoff series at Yost? I figure the former question has to have "198something" in the answer, and the answer to the second question is "no." Yeah, really not liking my chances right now... Thanks, BG...

In 88-89, Michigan lost at Yost to Bowling Green in three games, with the last game going to triple overtime. The four seasons prior to that (starting with Red's first year in 84-85), Michigan lost in the first round on the road. The two seasons before that, they didn't even make the CCHA playoffs. And the season before that (first year of the CCHA), they lost in the first round.
