Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Ya'll enjoy the game tonight. With the sorry to begin with parking situation exacerbated by lousy scheduling I decided to not fight what will be a real cluster#*%@ and dumped my tix on StubHub.

I'll be back on 3 weeks for the 2nd playoff round.

I WOULD appreciate a little help from the Lakers tonight!

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

I have seen him do ohio state games this year and i think he is terrible. You guys got hosed on a most of them calls last night

It wasn't just us- I thought NMU got hose on a pretty clean open ice hit when Merrill wasn't paying attention- got a elbow, and a discussion whether it was a hit to the head.

And if they called that slash to knock the stick out of Jon's hands, they they SHOULD have called on that broke a Northern stick way away from the play.

They were deplorable all around, and I sure hope the B1G puts some money into good reffing.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

OK, good, I wasn't the only one to notice this. There were guys losing an edge all night, and some truly bizarre puck movement as well. I don't know if it's the crazy fluctuations in weather we've been having here, but there was definitely something going on with the surface last night.

And we could not keep the puck on our sticks last night- I thought we had a chance to be 4-1 when it was still 2-1 if the puck didn't bounce that badly- couple of guys missed handled the puck on a shot...

Hope the power bill was paid. ;)

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Mrs Alfa and I just finished watching "Black and Blue" which is the story about Gerald Ford, Willis Ward, and the 1934 UM- Georgia Tech football game.

If you get a chance watch it. While it is a football story, it very much involves Yost- both bad and good.

One thing I learned was that a street right next to us, Jewett, is probably named after the first black player at UM. And that there's NO landmark in Ann Arbor named after Willis Ward- which there should be just for what he did AFTER leaving school. Let alone that he helped win 2 NC's. Or that he beat the legendary Jessee Owens. I knew some of it, but got a lot more details from the documentary. We are hoping to see if we can partially sponsor a showing at the Michigan Theater.

Coming soon to Yost Arena - It is now official, I received my mailing today - "Personal Seat Donations" in Crisler ARENA (I REFUSE to call it Crisler center) starting next season.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Where/how did you see it?

She got a preview of it at work- by one of the two who did it, and then she bought us the DVD to help support him.

There was a showing at the Alumni Center on Thursday night, too.

Good stuff.

A J Treais has really been "Turning it on" the last few weeks!

I know that every other game in the NCAA hasn't finished yet but check out the PWR, as of right now Michigan is #1!

It's going to be a total disaster when this happens at Yost. And I think it's a major stab in the back to people who supported a godawful basketball program through the dark ages of sanctions and Amaker. Just when we're good again...

Also agree on the "Crisler Center" thing. Dumb.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Relief to win that game. Funny how the game laid it self out, last night- we got a ton of great attempts, but no puck luck with the shots. Better pasing, and puck movement, and just a few decent shots.

As the game progressed, we just looked to get more and more tired. The poster boys for that being the Wholberg, Guptil, and Brown line- holy cow did they not play well last night or what? IIRC, they were on the ice when northern tied the game. ugh.

Heck of a goal by Trieas. And a BIG gift to the seniors.

A note about Sparks- he's really getting going, I think. Moving a lot, getting himself open- I wonder if he could draw a few paniced D on him leaving someone open.

One point will let us play a home series in 3 weeks. And 1st is Ferris's to not get swept over.

That was a great college hockey game. UM won with their ability to make NMU pay for their mistakes. NMU tied the game at 1 and could have taken momentum to the room after 2. But they took a penalty immediately after and UM cashed in. A bad turnover by NMU in OT resulted in a great pass and a great game winning goal.

It's coming, only a matter of "When?" not "If?"

YEP! I feel the knife. I've been there since '80-'81!

You forgot (intentionally?) that "Empty suit" Brian Ellerbe.

I am definitely a Broncos fan next weekend. A sweep by them (possible but unlikely) and a sweep by us (likely but not assured) means another regular season title banner.

Plus my grandson is a freshman there.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Awright, since no one else has mentioned it, does any one realize that the Wolverines have now won 20 games in a season for the 25th consecutive season, an NCAA record - and counting!
