Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

Russell post-game (missed the first minute or two, sorry):

*Didn't like our work ethic early on
*Rarely battled for the puck until the 3rd

*Worried about Genoe when the first goal happened
*Very happy he was able to recover mentally
*Rebound control was great, especially in the 2nd

*Matching defensive lines against the Connollys worked well
*Kept that line to the outside as much as possible

*Duluth shortened their bench after going down a goal, and we followed suit
*MacLeod "has had issues", but was back in the lineup tonight and role-played well

Good to see a goalie steal a game for us this season. Bottom line, it's just great to see another W.

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

1st Star: Genoe (ridiculous SV%)
2nd Star: Bordson (generated a lot of chances for Duluth, good at dishing the puck)
3rd Star: Kattelus (1-1-2, GWG)

Superior Player of the Game: Genoe (duh)

Wow, someone seriously fails at counting at least twice this year. The box says there was 2400 people there, it was surely more than that. The did this during the Superior Showcase as well.

2400 for Carny? That's flat-out BS.

Carny draws 3500 MINIMUM. Usually near sellout status.

Agreed. Even when the team blows, there is little else to do by Friday evening (and especially Saturday). Additional drinking can always commence after the game (or during, since you can "sneak" just about anything in).

Definitely more people than 3000...besides our pitiful section L...the arena was fairly full...there was even quite a few people standing underneath the suites...

Leave it to a Techie to role-play well.

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part V: We Were Dead On Arrival

very glad to see Genoe play well. I think we had some losses that we should have won so it's nice to get one here. The team is not as bad as the record, especially when Genoe plays like this.
Here's to picking up a few good players for next year.
Tried to go to the AF/cc game tonight but it was sold out.

With all the talk of Jamie being on the hot seat, Im pretty sure winning WC would allow Jamie to be around another year, heck even tonight's performance could allow him to keep his job.

I like it when you speak this way, m'dear. :)

Whether or not he gets the wins, if he manages to make this team look like a D1 hockey team over the course of these last few series, I'd say that he'll keep his job another year. Even respectable losses to Denver and Wisconsin would probably look OK, as he would be able to point out the improvement of a team with 17 underclassmen. They may not score enough to win, but turning the defense around would go a long way towards helping his case.

We'll see how things go tomorrow.

personally, I was disappointed with the student showing for WC except for the misfits which responded awesomely to any attempt to the UMD fans to try a cheer. many many empty seats in the "reserved" section for students... very very disappopinting considering the tickets cost 0 dollars at the gate. anyways, great win by tech, they played an awesome game and played the system to almost perfection.(secretly wishes he could see more of that... well maybe not so secretive) DT was to packed to even drink at along with the Dog so Hancock bound I wqent and the Monte was just the ticket.

Well, word does get out around campus when the team has a bad record. I'm sure the lack of success has a lot to do with student attendance, though I agree that it's disappointing.

Also, listening to the video feed, I was able to hear some "Lets Go Dogs!" cheers over the Misfits. :(

I liked the Monte Carlo the 2-3 times I went there, mostly because the bartenders were generous with the amount of Jack I got in my J & Cs. Nevertheless, I definitely felt that it was a "locals" place.
