Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part IV: You Guys Give Up, Or Are You Thirsty For More?

So for my brother's bday, the family is going to a Plymouth Whalers (OHL) game. I just now looked at the tickets to see who we are playing... Windsor Spitfires. My immediate response was... ****. Windsor is 31-4-0-4 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and the Whalers are 22-17-0-1. Why do I have to be tortured like this? FML.

Whoa Yager, did you know that Taylor Hall and Cam Fowler both play for Windsor?

(If you didn't watch the Canada/USA game, you won't understand this.)

Whoooo Suck On That Tech!

Our Women's B-ball Team Just Dominated Yours. Thought You Guys Were Supposed To Be #1 In That Sport. Looks Like Northern Is Pretty Much Better Than Tech At Everything. Go Cats!!

We don't talk about basketball here.

You can look at offense as well. Since Shelast said:
That's not quite true, both MacCleod and Bunger will go to the net but neither are getting a lot of ice time. Check out Kivisto's last goal if you have access to the video.

Haven't seen it yet, can't get that page to open today for some reason.

I will take your word for it. But are they just driving to the net looking for the rebound? Just passing through? Or are they setting up shop right in front of the goalie, fronting up to the shooter? Think Thomas Holmstom..(whom Shelast was often compared to)

In the few games I've seen the past couple of seasons I can't say as I've seen anyone do that at all.

I see them stop just next to the goalie. I see them skate past in front of the goalie, I see them drive to the net as the shot is taken.

But not camp out directly in front of him.

The goal that I was addressing occured against NMU. I have a copy of the game from the B2 webcast. Not sure where else it is available, possibley on the B2 Network. On that particular play, Bunger was directly in front of the NMU goalie and it looks like the goalie didn't see the shot.

Let's be honest, the GLI from a hockey stand point is all about getting Michigan and MSU in the championship game. They are huge rivals and to get the biggest crowd and best game for broadcast on TV (and ratings) they want UM and MSU playing in the final. Thus those two will never play each other in the first round. Think of it another way, if NMU and MTU hosted a tourney, you would want those two teams to face each other in the final because you know it would be a hot game - it always is. The real problem is that recently Tech has not been on the same level as UM or MSU and it doesn't matter who the 4th team is because Tech will never play them in the first round game.

In theory this makes sense but really it doesn't. Fox Sports has absolutley nothing to do with the tourney, they use to broadcast all of the games (so really it wouldn't matter when Michigan and Michigan State played), now they only reluctantly broadcast the Championship game and I'm almost sure they don't get the best rating from even that game. As far as tickets sold at the gate, it doesn't matter all tickets purchased count the same and pretty everybody who goes to the GLI is counted for that day no matter if you stay for both games or not, so everybody who shows up is counted no matter if they showed up to watch Michigan State play in the second game against Michigan or the early game against Wayne State Community College, this is important because I see the same people coming for either game. Lastly I think there is just as big a Michigan Tech crowd showing up year then anybody else.

If the argument is Michigan and State draw bigger crowds and make for better TV audiences I think it would actually be in a good idea to play the Michigan, Michigan State game in the first round to get it over with and that way it's guaranteed to happen every year.

Really when is the last time State and Michigan played at the GLI.

That makes perfect sense.

That was more Bunger having an energy shift than anything that consistently happens. If Bunger (or anyone else for that matter) would play like that every shift, he'd be on the first line. Easily.

fine before that.

2006, 2004, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1995...you want me to go further?

The last time they met in the 3rd place game was 1981...

Got back from the trip a couple hours ago, and wanted to give a shout-out and thank you to your fans that sat with us during our first game. The seventh man most definitely helped, and we're very appreciative. Sorry we couldn't pull it out against State, but one out of two ain't bad in our minds, especially given State's ranking.

Best of luck to your team in the remainder of the season, and hopefully we will cross paths again soon.

It was a blast hanging out with a new group of fans. I wish we could have sat down by you guys again on Wednesday, but the Joe staff shut us down.

It was probably because of the giant inflatable camera you tried bringing in.

That is most unfortunate.

I don't think they played that video this year.
It was unfortunate.

Also, the WCHA is doing pretty well so far this holiday tourny season. The ECAC and CHA are taking a beating. Bemidji even tied Western 0-0, terrible.

The section was actually pretty packed, and we weren't able to spread out; had to take our 12 assigned seats.

BTW, in case you were wondering, I was in that group; I'm the guy with the long hair.
