So here's what I got to say. Even though Tech lost both games the Tech fan base in particular are little student section out cheered and had more fun then anybody else period. Most importantly everybody noticed, as we had all eyes on us the entire time. Every year our little student section gets better and I'm almost sure in a couple of years the fourteen and fifteen year olds who go to the GLI is going to going to go Tech because of the yearly display of fan support and fun they see the misfits having. Hopefully some of those current teenagers will be really good hockey players.

But the point is the GLI is a great marketing tool for the univeristy. The hockey team is going to get better and I'm almost positive it will get better under Russell, but most importantly over the coming years I see a major boost in recruiting to both the university and the hockey team due to the showing of the Misfits.

So good job everybody.

My thoughts on the consolation game:

1. Hogan is a mediocre goalie at best, and he is lucky that his team helped him out by keeping MTU bottled up in their own end for much of the game.

2. I don't think the Huskies woke up until the refs handed them a pity goal with the extended 5x3 in the second period. I actually said to my U of M friend, "If we don't score on this, I guarantee you that we're going to get shutout."

3. Michigan simply wanted 3rd place more than we did, and they outworked us to earn it. I think that's the bottom line on the outcome of that game.

They did some things better: won some individual battles, keep the play/puck to the outside in their own zone, overall worked alittle harder, covered/controlled rebounds, maybe gave up a few less quality scoring chances. And (same old same old) came within a misfire of tieing the game just before michigan got the empty netter.


There is still a lot to improve upon for sure. Like---PP, PK, not taking lazy penalties to begin with, clearing their own zone, and less mindless passes to nowhere in particular......

A lot of people seemed to be betting this team had/has simple quite on the coaches and themselves. That doesn't seem to be the case. Doesn't make the loses any easier to stomach. But until the top ten recruits in the country suddenly turn up in Tech uniforms we may just have to ride it out.

I just want to know what happen to the solid defense we had? its one thing to lose many close games because you can't score, its another thing to forget how to play defense and still not be able to score...one of the biggest changes I've noticed since guys like batty and skworch left is the lack of shot blocking and quality defense from the forwards...

I am tired of taking good things out of bad games. Tech hasn't gotten any better since the beginning of the season while the rest of the teams are as the season goes on. Nothing has changed and the same crap plagues us every night. With such a crappy waste of a year, the best thing they can do is to take one thing and improve on that first and move on to another thing once they've got it down. I don't care if it's PK, blocking shots, hitting, conditioning, screening, tipping, using the points, etc... they just need to get better at SOMETHING.
