Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Minor thing I noticed from Brad Schlossman's blog:

North Dakota's trip to Houghton is in mid-December (probably at the end of exam week). I find this disappointing because it is my personal opinion the people of Houghton should make that series extra ... interesting.

Will they have recovered from when MN and their contingent visit in October? ;)

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Add this to next year's schedule. Per Kevin Pates, Duluth travels to Houghton 11/30 & 12/01, while Tech is at Duluth 1/11 & 1/12.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Does anyone have a composite schedule for next year started yet?

They will get pieced together as certain folks on here hear from other certain folks. For example, I know I am on speed-dial for when MN visits Houghton thanks to some people there. Why, you ask? Well, as of last weekend, the MN contingent has 18 rooms confirmed booked (as in, rooms that are filled) for the Travel Lodge. And there are still a ton of maybes to decide. :D

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Slow sports day in the UP today. Jordan Baker got a nice little spot. Goal & an assist thus far, 4 penalty minutes, and a -2 +/-. Mentioned something about how the rest of the seniors are expected to garner interest over the summer.

I have a parents house to stay at, not worried :) I was mostly concerned with it overlapping with the badgers vs northern at the resch. Can't pass up hockey that close to home even if you wish both crappy teams lost by 10 :D

Go NMU in that series. ;)

It is more towards the fact that the MTU-MN series is generally considered the 2nd most important road trip/event next to the WCHA F5. Unfortunately, the word is we can't get the big suite this year (unlike the first year the suites were built). I'd guess our numbers will be around 60-70 fans making the trip. Don't worry, you'll notice us. :)

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I've been ruminating about the problems faced by the coaches at the final four and how to beat the various teams. One thing I notice, even from the up tempo teams is that they block a ton of shots. I noticed on the PP B C had two people lying down on more than one occasion and that Ferris is known as a big shot blocking team.

So i wonder what people think would be the best way to get shots on net given the circumstances, and second how to score with all those guys lying down all over the place.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Sorry for the double post. Today, Pinnacle Airlines, a Delta regional carrier and the carrier that up to this year provided service to Houghton, filed for chapter 11. The CEO stated that the Business model was unsustainable. Other regional carriers are in trouble as well, particularly Comair.
the agreements that the major's have with regionals mean that every seat on the plane is sold before a single person buys a ticket. All the regional carrier needs to do is complete the flight, and if they do they get 100% revenue. So when these guys are going bankrupt even when 100% sold out, what does that mean for the future of regional travel.? Pinnacle also said it is pulling out of it's Essential Air Service agreements that it now has only with US Air.
Sky West provides Houghton air service these days and they are in better health.

I struggle immensely with that series. I hate both pretty equally :)

The Gopher visits to MTU are another sad thing about the death of the oWCHA.... We've had family friends making the trip for years. I'll miss the Gophers...

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Hi All -

I have en route to me a couple dozen Michigan Tech game worn jerseys. My goal is to try and draw some older Michigan Tech jerseys out of fan's closets and work out some trades. So..... if you, one of your classmates, friend down the street, coworker, or whoever have one of those gross, old, smelly MTU game worn jerseys from many seasons ago and you would like to upgrade to the fresh new snazzy "Mel Pearson Era" model Huskies jersey, please shoot me an email. I know they are out there because I see them at games and I would really like to add some new "older" styles to my collection. Or if you are a fan of another team and you have some game worn jerseys from your team as well, I'm sure we can work something out if you want to get on the Huskies bandwagon as a closet fan.

You can <a href="mailto:info@johnsonsjerseys.net?subject=USCHO Post about MTU Jerseys">EMAIL ME</a> if you have something to offer.

Also for all the rest of you, after receiving many requests/suggestions, I have redone the MTU section of my website. Rather than the previous "home", "road", "alt" sections which really were not crystal clear as to what went where, I have now organized the site by era. Still not 100% perfect (especially in the 1980s and older) but I think it is more accurate than before and I've added some research photos from sets that I don't have yet as well. Of course your input is always welcome as well. Game photos from the 1970s and 1980s (or older) would be very helpful. Just go to my site and then click on the Michigan Tech link in the upper left corner to view the MTU content. I'm still working on the equipment portion of the site, but maybe in a few days I will have that up. And yes, I know there are no jersey photos on the 2010-2019 page as they have not arrived yet, so it makes them tough to photograph and get posted.

Your help is always appreciated! If you want to know what is happening now see the Tech Hockey Guide. If you want to know what it looked like many years ago on the ice see Johnson's Jerseys.
:D

Ryan, any of those for sale? I've only got one jersey that could be traded, but don't want to let go of it.
