Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Mark Maroste and Pat Mikesch both played for the world junior team. I believe Maroste played in 81 and 82 and Mikesch in 93.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

So the season is upcoming and unfortunately the live blogging provider we used at TechHockeyGuide, CoverItLive, has switched to a subscription basis instead of ad-supported. Based on last season's usage it would cost us $29-$49 a month during the season. I've been working to find a cheaper and hopefully free alternative, but have had no such luck. Hopefully, we'll be able to find a suitable alternative before the season starts.

Personally, while I found the software nifty in some respects, I also felt that it was a bit redundant, even if it did help circumvent the board's occasional bandwidth chokes. If you can't find a reasonable, free alternative, I wouldn't cry about letting it go.

What I liked it was able to engage an audience that isn't on USCHO, like parents and alumni.

I only do the score thread on here, and last season there were several times when it wasn't updated regularly, so I didn't have any idea what was going on. It kinda sucked. For some reason the people that could actually listen to or watch the game didn't post in the thread.

Yes and at times, especially if the game was a big game, the radio stream shut completely down. Still the video from the university has got to be better this year doesn't it?

I don't think I ever got the radio stream to work for more than about 5 minutes of game for any game. It was terrible. I gave up on it by January and just found a game on TV to watch instead.

Wow. mine usually worked, but I tuned in about 20 mins before game time. It did quit in the middle at times but would come back. I think it might have something to do with the number of connections the station allows, but really I don't know.

Mine would usually work right away for about 3-4 minutes, then it would cut out, and I'd have to reconnect, it would start again and last for about a minute then cutout again and never reconnect.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Jake Kauppila's summary from the Coulee Region Chill site that was linked: Not sure what the USHL comment is about, if the USHL has their eyes on him, doesn't a player usually play in the USHL then?

Jake Kauppila, Birthday: Jan 19, 1995, Hometown: Gurnee, IL Position: F Height: 6-0 Weight: 170

This Michigan Tech recruit that played for Team Illinois, came into CRC main camp and tore it up. The USHL had their eyes on him and now he'll be sporting the "Angry Penguin" for the CRC.

Also on the Chill is Devin Kero, do people think we'll be recruiting him?

Devin Kero, Birthday: Jan 29, 1994, Hometown: Hancock, MI Position: G

Devin was selected #3 overall in the 2012 NAHL Entry Draft and was the first goalie taken. Valedictorian of his class at Hancock Central H.S. Devin is extremely quick in net.

For the pasty.net radio issue, it seems like there's a cap for how many can listen at one time and after that it can't connect. It's great we had more interest in people listening to games last year, but for Tech hockey to turn them away. Suzanne responded in an email late last season that they know it's an issue and "we are talking to the radio station regarding the broadcasts."

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

D. Kero is a goalie. I doubt we will have room for him, unless Pearson suspects the Jets will tell Phillips to go to the minors after a year or two.

Kauppila was drafted by Chicago (USHL) and attended their camp but did not make the team out of that camp...that is what they are talking about.
