Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I was up camping in the Keweenaw last week and stopped in at the SDC store. For people that hope to have one of the new jerseys before the season starts you will most likely be out of luck. They don't expect to have jerseys in until after the season starts. There is trouble with the manufacturer matching color (the off-white in the side panels) & material. The day I was in there they were expecting to get some color samples in to compare. The problem as I was told is that the team's jerseys are being made in the states, and the ones that will be sold to the public are being made overseas.

They are even keeping their fingers crossed on getting the team's jerseys in on time. Those, as of now, are expected in a week before the season starts.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Hopefully someone is available to test out the video stream and report back. I would but I'll be on the golf course.

Test Out New Athletics Stream on Sunday
HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech fans are encouraged to check out a sneak peek of the new webstreaming services available this season during Sunday’s women’s soccer exhibition match against UW-Stevens Point. The new webstream, which is being provided through a service on-campus, will be available shortly before the kick-off at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. The stream will be available at www.huskieslive.mtu.edu and can be viewed on computers as well as tablets and phones. This game will be free but costs of future events will be released in the near future.

EDIT: stuckinwi beat me to it, I was just assuming it applies to hockey as well, we'll see

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

First: Watching women's soccer of paint dry -- It's a toss up.

I haven't watched the Tech feeds since they started charging for it, so I can't really compare it to much.
I lost connection several times during the game. And the picture got jumpy when the camera had to follow faster action (If it had trouble following soccer what's it gonna be like with hockey). Also there was a problem with focusing at times. But that was probably operator error rather than a problem with the feed.

Haven't decided as of yet whether I want to shell the money for it yet.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

As far as grainy goes I didn't think it was too bad compared to what I remember it looking like back when it was free, but it was still a long way from a nice crisp picture.

It looked better on an ipod than it did on an ipad and computer. I think if I had've hooked to the tv it would not have looked very sharp at all.

I received this reply in my email about Pasty.net having issues:

The issues were addressed and Pasty.net has assured me that they have increased their bandwidth to handle the number of users. Please let me know if you have any issues this year. I don't expect that you will, though.

Thanks,
Wes

What type of production to expect from Milos Gordic this season.

I'd like to see big Milos light it up this year, but I don't think he's going to be the kind of player that goes end to end with the puck or sets up plays.
He's more of big guy with a nose for the net who scores from close in. That limits his production to some extent.
He was at .51 points per game last season with an injury and .76 ppg the year before.
His BCHL numbers were a lot like Khaira's but I don't think he's quite a mobil as Khaira.
If he stays healthy all year, I think he gets a respectable 30 points this season and is in the top 3 point getters.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I tend to agree with bb. Very few programs in the top half of D1 hockey seem to take more than one player a season direct from the NAHL, although Russell seemed to be making a habit of it for a while (Ryan Bunger, Ricky Doriott, Derek Kitti, John Kivisto, Carl Nielsen, Mikael Lickteig, Anthony Schooley, Aaron Pietila). My previous post was referring to spotting/developing upward bound talent in NAHL. Mostly, I was commenting on the difference in the level of play between NAHL and USHL, which frankly surprised me. Although I've never seen a Canadian minor junior game in person, I'd have to guess that the Alberta and Saskachewan minor junior leagues are also quite a bit more competitive than the NAHL.

6-2 vs BCHL competition the last couple years. Not saying the NAHL is a better league, just saying the NAHL is not as bad as you think it is.
