Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Ouch!! Where are the creampuff games? I hope we get an NC series with the ECAC or Atlantic and a few pairings with Mankato, Alaska and Bemidji.

Given the number of games already on the docket, it looks like we'll have a stronger SOS next season.
Well, given what we know already, we are in a cluster with BSU and UNO, so we have 4 games each with those to add to that schedule. Which just leaves 2 games against Wisconsin, 2 against Mankato, 2 against UAA and 2 non-conference(my guess is LSSU). The Badger games should be at the Kohl.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

You're right. For some reason, I thought it was four vs. UW and two at UNO, but it's the other way around.

Also, there is no such thing as a creampuff series for this team. As I recall, AIC nearly won that first game.

Tyler Heinonen got a hat trick last night for Muskegon which gives him 21 for the season. He missed several games this season and is only 18. His successful shots on goal percent is very near 20%! Do you suppose this may sway Mel to consider him for the roster this fall?

Another year will be good for him, but I'm a bit impressed that he rebounded with 30 points in his last 34 games after collecting 3 in his first 16. He finished 65th in league scoring, but that goes up to 25th if you only consider players born in '93 or later.

While we're at it, he finished 21st in league goal scoring (12th for '93s or later), which may be a better indicator of his talent – playing for the second worst team in the league, he may not have linemates who can finish off his potential assists.

Tanner Kero was also an 18-year-old in his USHL season and put up about the same number of points.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Not really directly related to Michigan Tech, but this latest addition to my collection does have a unique MTU backstory thanks to a certain MTU fan and member of this board with a "crush" on a certain SCSU former player. I guess this is my first jersey with a youtube video match.

Looking for a home and home with UNO somewhere in there, and wondering about the NMU and LSSU series dates.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

We're in a cluster with BSU and UNO, so there's two more home dates with Bemidji that we're still waiting for. 2x BSU, 2x Omaha, 2x LSSU (?), 2x UAA and 1x NMU would make 19 possible home games, which would be more than usual.

Wow, I was expecting to see BSU for carny. Would they really bring UNO in for Carny again? Or are they looking to blow the doors off the JMSIA with a non-conference / future WCHA preview NMU/LSSU carny weekend? How cool would that be?!?

Not likely due to the scheduling issues that it would cause.

Anchorage is still a possibility.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I think an LSSU carny would be cool... but I like having a conference game there as it's a more important game and we always seem to play better for carny.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

today's Gazette story: "Michigan Tech was the only team in the nation to have more than eight players with at least eight goals on the season."
Nobody will agree in the polls, and that's fine, but I think this team will be improved next season and will earn home ice. A lot of good young forwards and more coming in.

I think it would be too, but I doubt it will happen. If Tech and LSSU do play in Houghton, I think it will most likely be October 12-13.

For sure the offense will continue to improve, but they've got to continue to work on avoiding turnovers, cleaning up their defensive game, and they need at least one of the three goalies to consistently put up a SV% of .910+.

Until some of that happens, they're a .500-ish team.
