Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Does anyone have guesses on when we'll know if it's Phillips or Vallis coming next fall?

Anyone in Houghton seen the rink lately? Is it just torn up concrete or is there nothing to see.

I believe it will be both. The rink will probably be torn up after graduation.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Official comment on Phillips will probably be soon. Vallis will be awhile but I expect him to be a Husky next year.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

For sure the offense will continue to improve, but they've got to continue to work on avoiding turnovers, cleaning up their defensive game, and they need at least one of the three goalies to consistently put up a SV% of .910+.

Until some of that happens, they're a .500-ish team.

Next year NCAAs or bust.

Heck, I would be happy to set the same goal as this year - a winning record. Put up more Ws than Ls and you're almost certain to get home ice and as Tech showed this year, you're more than good enough to compete at the conference tourney. Sure you might want a few more wins to make yourself a legit team to be considered by the NCAA committee, but let's not forget where we were just one year ago. I'm happy with steps forward every year, regardless how large.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

according to the Pearson show today, NMU's coaches flew to BC to watch Gould and when they got there they find out he verballed to tech that day; apparently they were a little perturbed.

Haha, that's good stuff. :) Personally, I'm really really looking forward to some meaning to the Northern series.

Anyone take the time to do a Pearson show recap?

Agreed.

The Darkness is right. NCAA's and a top 4, fighting for top 3, finish in the WCHA.

The onlything that kept Tech from at least having a chance to get into the NCAA's this year was their out of conference record. If they can win the GLI and beat Northern they should have a legit shot of making the tourney at the end of the year.

THAT must be a goal this year...end that **** drought.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Same goals ok but how about at least add home ice for the playoffs. Realistic

Actually they are pretty much the same goal. A 0.500 record in the WHCA pretty much locks up home ice for you... Unless you are St Cloud. In the last ten years, three teams finished with 0.500 or better WCHA records and did NOT get home ice for the playoffs. They were SCSU 2003-04, SCSU 2005-06 and SCSU 2008-09. Sucks to be those Huskies I guess.

I agree just believe next year will be more difficult as no opponent should be surprised or will take these Huskies lightly.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

geez, somehow I thought the mel show was shelved for the season.

I wonder what reason NMU had to go there. You don't go places like this without a reason. I'd be unhappy too.

My question for anyone is this, how do our recruits stack up vs everyone else's. Can we say that we are moving up in the pecking order? I know the coach is high on our new guys but all the other coaches are too.

From an outsider's point of view, I think Tech has a pretty good recruiting class this year (perhaps top 15-20 nationally?). Mel has a good thing going on in Houghton right now, and I will be pulling for the Huskies every chance I get...unless they meet up with North Dakota.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Well the wings being out now, I have to say I think Babcock is one VERY impressive guy. I love how direct he is and how he says exactly the important points. I think the wings will be better next year.
