Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I am pretty sure A. Pietila decided to leave the team.

Also, Fillion will be top 6...

I agree, i think Hyland will be kind of like davis was this year, and I think davis will get more time. Fillion improved a lot this year.

Also the forwards, I think there were five new forwards this year too, so if three of these new guys find regular spots at first, who will they be.

Petan, Eick, Khaira,? But who knows, I think Vallis will have to compete for a spot and I hope licktieg has a regular job, I guess we really don't know how these guys compare to this years crop. Gould and Heitila I know very little about.

Congrats to FSU on a great year. I don't think anyone expected a game that good.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Looking at the team next year, looks like we have 3 solid scoring lines and a very speedy drive the other team crazy 4th line.
No telling who will be the 6 d-men regulars, but it looks really good for next year if the Freshman are as good as advertised.

B. Pietila D. Johnstone Gould
Furne Kero Gordic
Khaira J. Johnstone Petan
Lickteig Eick Rix

A. Pietila Holmberg Vallis
C. Pietila
Hietala

Seigo Sweeney
Stebner Nielsen
Sova Hyland
Brown Fillion
Davis

Genoe
Copley

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

So here is my "law-jik" on looking at the future of the WCHA.

MTU was the best team of oldWCHA teams this year.
FSU was the best team of the oldCCHA teams this year.
BC beat FSU by three goals.
BC only beat MTU by one goal.
So...
MTU > FSU and MTU will win the new WCHA in 2013-14. (But we will still lose to BC in the National Championship game.)

what's the max. games a year that can be played to qualify for a redshirt?

I could be wrong but the way I understand it is if you play 1 game you burn your redshirt. For a medical hardship redshirt, if you only play in the first half of a season, totaling less than 30% of the games and suffer a season ending injury, you could get a redshirt.

I don't see a season that happened so there must be more ways to get a redshirt if Pearson is pursuing it. You'd think they'd have to get an answer from the NCAA quickly so Reddick could kow if he should stay or go.

Ryan J and who ever wants to put 2 cents in.

Got a game worn jersey right of the back of the Avs player after the game last night. Do we wash it? Will the sweat deteriorate the material? Marker he signed it with should be permanent and plan on framing it.

Ryan did you get my message/ email about the Durno Avs jersey?

Hey congrats! I never did see the Durno. Where was it for sale? If you plan to frame the jersey, you will want to give it a light wash in cold water. If you don't, the jersey will get very "crisp" and may eventually discolor. The image below is a jersey I recently purchased off Ebay and you can tell at some point this jersey was worn and then left dirty for who knows how long. Now on the up side, I gave it a light wash in cold water and nearly all of the filth came out, but on the down side it completely whitewashed the neck tagging. I've never seen anything like it. You won't have that problem with a new jersey. Is there NHL / MeiGray tagging in the back hem?

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Jujhar Khaira is ranked #74 among North American skaters in the NHL Central Scouting final list, which was released this morning. He is the highest ranked player out of the BCHL. I think he might be a good one. ;)

edit: For comparison, Ben Johnson is #54, Vermont recruit Zemgus Girgensons is #18, Michigan forward Phil Di Giuseppe is #22, UMD recruit Adam Johnson is #82, Minnesota recruit AJ Michaelson is #87, and Denver recruit Quentin Shore is #80.

and he doesn't turn 18 until this August...yeah, I'd say we found a good one.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

My crystal ball for next year:

Offensive Leaders
-----------------
B. Pietila - I see Blake stepping up a level and being the team's offensive leader
Furne - Ryan hits it hard in the offseason and has a breakout year with over 30 points
D. Johnstone - David will mature over the summer and will be a top 3 scorer, high 20s/low 30s
Petan - The replacement for Jordan Baker, a small, fast, older, gritty forward that will be a top 4 scoring leader, high 20s
Khaira - A big, young kid with great instinct that will be a top five scorer right off the bat, but may be an all american in a few years
J. Johnstone - Jake has a solid year and scores over 20 points
Kero - Tanner will be a consistent scorer and playmaker, high teens/low 20s
Gordic - Milos will continue to be a big body that can score inside and will put up high teens

Second Tier Offense
-------------------
Gould - Gould has a good showing with points in the mid/low teens
Rix - Rix continues blocking shots and breaks into double digits scoring
Pietila - Chad will earn a regular roster slot and will put up around 10 points
Lickteig, Vallis and Eick will compete for a starting position, each puts up single digits
Holmberg and Hietala will see limited time but could occasionally displace Vallis or Eick

Defense
------------------
Seigo - Seigo is the team captain, puts up mid 20s
Sova - Sova is D#2
Stebner - Stebner continues to improve and is D#3
Fillion - Justin is D#4 and passes Sweeney
Sweeney - Riley has a good season as D#5
Nielsen - Nielsen is D#6
Hyland, Davis & Brown duke it out for a slot, maybe displace someone occasionally

GOAL
-----
Genoe starts but after first month sees even time with Copley, who comes on strong
Copley finishes as the starter even though Genoe improves from previous year

NCAA rules that Reddick is done

Huskies finish third or fourth in WCHA due to:

1. Improved consistency
2. More scoring output
3. Stronger goaltending
4. Top teams losing marquis players to pros

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

That article makes it sound like Phillips is indeed joining the team this fall, while Vallis may be asked to wait.

I don't think you can count other teams' losses as a big factor in any predictions. You know a program like UND or Denver will just reload four years out of five.

Vallis is already 21. Either poor diction by Stephen Anderson or Pearson thinks Vallis might decommit and go somewhere else.

Phillips I can't figure out. If you don't pay attention to his tweets, everything points to his coming for 2013–14. If you do, he'll be here in the fall.

Vallis can't wait, he's too old. I think the reason for the maybe is the fact that Vallis hasn't signed because of the signing periods...although I'm surprised that there would be a definitive answer on gould.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I believe Phillips wants to come 2012-13 and if it's a choice between Phillips 2012-13 or not at all, MTU will take him now versus losing him.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

here's a funny I got, thought you all might enjoy it.

When you are an offensive genius, you get a job in the NFL.
When You get a job in the NFL, you lose games.
When you lose games, you take a job at Arkansas.
When you live in Arkansas, you get bored.
When you get bored, you go looking for strange.
When you go looking for strange, you find strange.
When you find strange, you take it for a ride on your motorcycle.
When you take strange for a ride on your motorcycle, she reaches around and grabs your junk.
When she grabs your junk, you wreck your motorcycle.
When you wreck your motorcycle, you end up at a press conference in a neck brace.

Don't end up at a press conference in a neck brace...switch from cable and upgrade to DirecTV.

Ryan J
Thanks for the info. Do we want to hand wash or in the machine on delicate? Yes it has a MeiGray tag. Do they have some place on their website where you can search by ID?

Don't know if the Durno was ever for sale. I looked on e-bay and craigs list, but never saw it. I thought I would watch the MeiGray site, any other suggestions.
