MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

They should change that rule to the a certain number of days after the conclusion of a teams prior season. That way the teams that need the extra practice can get it.

I will also add sub-rule "A" to the proposal that the team is granted one additional day of legal practice for each loss the previous season. So that takes another full month off our "off-season".

On the other subject of conferences, I would agree that Tech has no interest in the CCHA as their WCHA membership is a legit recruiting tool. It would be nice however just from a rival standpoint to get all three UP schools (four if you count Duluth, which is almost as much in the UP as the Soo) in the same conference. More in-conference road trips for the local fans!

Aw, I'm the good witch? :)

Well you're the one who's still alive, so by default, yeah. Besides, you can be a little sarcastic or harsh at times, but pretty much always to people who deserve it, so that still counts as "good." Glinda would *****-slap a moron if necessary.

I always felt that Glenda was more naive than good, so it's a perfect fit. :p

True story. Even if you're not a musical theatre fan, Wicked is an awesome musical and it kinda shows that whole side of her, particularly with the Galinda/Glinda name change.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH OFFSEASON THREAD II: The Winning has started

Switching gears a little, I think the schedule is pretty good. 9 of our first 11 are at home, and I believe there's a fair chance we get through those first 10-11 games at or near .500. Then there's a bye week before the worst travel stretch of the year - @ Anchorage followed immediately by @ SLU. I dislike the bye week immediately after the GLI, but at least they get to head home for their next three. The last six series of the year will be very tough - down to the wire, four series on the road, every opponent except Mankato could be ranked, and Jutting often has his teams playing better by the second half. Still, we should pick up a few wins in Feburary and early March.

agreed. It's my understanding that the team is not even coming back to Houghton at all after Anchorage but going right to St. Lawrence. It's rather an odd schedule. 4 weeks on the road in a row is tough no matter who you play.

I would not put it past the coach to offer a kid who really needs to be in the USHL for a year, the chance to play right away if he is talented and can help us down the road.

Weird, but then again, I suppose MTU fans can tolerate any sort of pain.

You're missing out on Avenue Q - that's solid gold right there. Otherwise, you're not too far off.

Also, figures that those two area clowns get especially idiotic right when I try to get back into the boards. At least that's done, and it's just the normal variety of clowns, haha.

That's area clowns to you. :p

And you're sure you can't stay for dinner? I know it's a long drive but it wouldn't be any trouble for us.

Tempting. I have to be at work at 8 am the next day, so it'd be a No-Doz drive, but I'll think it over. When do you have to know by?

It seems like we have a couple extra series against the bottom of the WCHA compared with last year, but any big improvement in wins is going to have to come from improved effort.

Wicked is a good musical but the book is a hundred times better. If they ever make a wicked movie I hope they base it off of the book and not the musical.

Also. Hi all, did you miss me.

Obviously, the earlier the better, but by Monday or Tuesday for sure.

Thanks for being so accommodating, allowing me to bring a date ;) I don't think she has any idea what she's getting herself into with a weekend in Houghton meeting all of you...

No prob. :)

And some wisdom from Wayne's World:

Garth Algar: Uhm, Wayne? What do you do if every time you see this one incredible woman, you think you're gonna hurl?
Wayne Campbell: I say hurl. If you blow chunks and she comes back, she's yours. But if you spew and she bolts, then it was never meant to be.

It'll be something like that.

Going straight on to Canton, NY makes sense. Still a "fun" stretch of travel though. ;)

And while I wouldn't object to your second statement if there was a guy talented enough to come in right away and get a baptism by fire, I think Mel is focused more on 2012 and 2013. The good HSers for 2011 have already been locked up, and most of them would've played this past year in the USHL.

It seems like we have a couple extra series against the bottom of the WCHA compared with last year, but any big improvement in wins is going to have to come from improved effort.

That is correct, and that should help with the 'W' column a bit. While I agree the effort will have to be better, I disagree with any notion that Tech never tried last season. Yes, there were games where they clearly threw in the towel from the opening faceoff - Saturday SLU and 3/4 vs. North Dakota stick out to me - and that has to end. However, they had a good showing for the final Superior Showcase, and they played alright during Carny (though they did benefit from facing Bemidji). The first GLI game against Michigan, they did what they had to do to put themselves in position to win, the Wolverines' superior talent just managed to score last. They could've easily laid down and died for the fourth time in two weeks against the Sioux, but they sacked up and made North Dakota earn that win.

Otherwise, they had a lot of incomplete efforts - show up for a period and a half, get down by 2-3 goals, and give up. As the weeks dragged on the streak got longer, more injuries piled up, and it just got more and more frustrating for the players (not to mention us).

Mel can change that culture.

Also. Hi all, did you miss me.

Who are you? ;)

Agreed. I've stated earlier that I thought that the team generally played hard even when down 2 goals in many games (in contrast to the Watter's teams). It's the good period one effort followed by not showing up in the 2nd that really hurt more than anything. By the time they would pick it up in the 3rd it was often to late.

Avenue Q rocks, saw it in Mpls, but if anyone's thinking of seeing it, learn the songs first, its better that way.

Ok... I would've lost SERIOUS money is somebody had bet me talk about musicals would've been what got you back. :)
