He was one of Russell's very last commits, so it seems more likely that he just didn't want to play for a new coach.

Or it there was good possibility the new coach may not want him.

It appears B.Johnson will not play college hockey as reportedly he has signed with the Windsor Spitfires this weekend whose most notable alumni as of late are Taylor Hall and Cam Fowler.

Honestly, that would not be surprising in the slightest.

Wasn't looking to surprise anyone. It's disappointing as he could have played a HUGE role in Tech's rebuild if things had worked out. He's a talent unlike MTU has seen in a long while. I would guess Pearson is very disappointed.

It's just the way that this dragged on silently for many months after his reported college visits that made me think that some OHL clubs had likely made overtures, and he was trying to decide whether he wanted to go that route, or play a year or two in the USHL before going to college.

I agree, it's a bummer for us, as Mel won't even have a chance to talk to him if it's a done deal.

I'm sure Mel was fully aware what was happening as he was one of Michigan's top recruits as well. If indeed he is off to Windsor, I guess good luck and he may well become Calumet's first NHL alumni.

well too bad. I think he will be very surprised at the level of competition which he is not ready for imho. At least not at this point. good luck to him is all you can say.

It did drag out and I would bet they have been trying for some months to get him.

I had heard that Ben Johnson had a solid offer but I still haven't seen or heard anything outside of these boards that confirms he actually signed with a Major Junior team...we shall see what happens.

Latest report this morning, "he'll probably take it"... fwiw. I'd love to watch Ben develop here under Mel, but if he decides to take that chance... good luck to him.
