Job Title: HEAD HOCKEY COACH

SUMMARY: Michigan Technological University seeks a goal-oriented, charismatic, inspirational, and dedicated head coach with a genuine interest in the success of student-athletes and building a winning hockey program. The head coach is charged with
developing, leading, and implementing NCAA Division I hockey and will work to reestablish Michigan Tech hockey as a nationally recognized and distinctive program. Duties of the position include areas such as recruitment, scheduling, practice/game preparation, budget management, fund raising, and promotion. The coach works in a collaborative fashion with the Athletic Department and serves in a leadership role to enhance the internal and external visibility and recognition of the Michigan Tech hockey program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plan, organize, and administer the University’s varsity hockey program.
Effectively lead, motivate and inspire student-athletes.
Direct the recruitment of hockey student-athletes on a national and international level.
Develop and implement hockey practice sessions, coordinating hockey staff to determine needs for individual and team improvement.
Evaluate Michigan Tech and opposing team capabilities to determine game strategy and manage/prepare team for competition;
determine strategy during games in consultation with coaching staff.
Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the University and team to a variety of alumni, and campus
and off-campus groups.
Actively participate in fund raising and alumni activities.
Provide necessary resources to monitor and promote the academic success of student-athletes.
Plan, develop and administer budgets.
Represent and act on behalf of the University as directed by the Athletic Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES:
Administrative supervision is exercised over coaching staff and support staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree.
Demonstrated recruiting experience with proven networks and relationships in key recruiting areas.
Experience playing and/or coaching hockey at the collegiate level.
Current or recent experience coaching Junior A level hockey or above.
DESIRABLE:
Master’s degree.
Head coaching experience.
Fund raising experience.
