Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

I don't believe I ever seen anyone mention Berenson, Lucia, or Gwozdecky for the MTU coaching position; assistants have been mentioned from some of these programs who are making far less than the previously mentioned. You're comparing apples to oranges.

There's less than zero chance that you will see any of those guys at the Mac, unless it's behind the visitors bench. Red, after Michigan plays at NMU next year, you might never see in the UP again! I know I put those names out there, but it was more to illustrate what it would take to go after someone of that sort.

Red Berenson hasn't seen the "Welcome to Houghton" sign since Ma Bell was broken up.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

I'm certain that the Tech administration is well versed on the salary's of competing programs. I'm also sure that there is at some point a price too high. So what, there is a price too high for everyone. No one knows what that is and it is totally pointless to speculate about it anyway. I do think that Tech has said that they will be competitive and I guess that means they intend to be competitive. Personally, I'd find the guy I wanted and pay what it takes to get him, but the guy I want is not lucia or gwoz.

I like the front runners and I hope they all apply.

The first thing I would do is get rid of anybody with an attitude like yours; that things can't improve within the current budget. Text on top of a picture; yes they're doing a great job. Flashy's site is far more professional than Tech's and I can guarantee his staff and budget is much smaller than MTU's. And you have no idea how big North Dakotas, Denvers, and CC's budget and staff are compared to MTU's.

{MrBurns}Excellent!{/MrBurns} That's the spirit I want to see once the new coach takes the wheel of our listing ship, i.e. 'be great at what you do or GTFO now!'

That the new website put up by Flashy is so much better, even in its infancy, than what our so-called professionals publish serves as an indictment of how far we've fallen. Everything associated with the hockey program, from the website to the administration, should be driven by the same commitment to excellence practiced down the hill from the arena. The hockey tail used to wag the Tech sports dog (no pun intended) back in the glory days which it should have given its D1 status. Hockey should be the model for the other teams and how they go to market. So what if the other teams don't have the budget that hockey does, they have an on-campus program to benchmark.

I want to see a successful (or just competative) hockey program as much as the next fan, but this sentiment bothers me. Tech is a D2 school with a D1 hockey program (insert sarcasm here). As such I think the school should take great pride in the success of the D2 teams. Should we invest in getting the hockey program back up to speed? Absolutely, but not at the expense of other successful operations, nor should other athletic operations take a back seat if hockey becomes successful. Even if hockey was successful right now at the D1 level, it's not a model for D2 athletics. Those are completely different animals.

Recruit Justin Fillion has been selected to play for Team Canada in April at the Russian Invitational Tournament.

agree. Tech should be paying Flashy for that!

Wait. Flashy has a staff? Flashy has a budget? Why am I the last to know this?

;)

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread I: Not Winning and the ensuing drama.

Flashy - It would be helpful if you could post the preliminary coaching staff for the 2011-12 season as well. I think we would all like to know at this point.

Just a suggestion- how about some pics rotating thru of all the current and former NHL alumni- Conner, Sutton, Scott, Ruutu, McKay and Lorimer hoisting the cup, Durno, Savage, Rhodes, Wilson, Kinrade, Peterson, Young, Watters, Zuke, Esposito. Such as:

Just a small change =P

But, I got on here for a possible rumor, I figure what the hell, everything's been thrown out there already.

Through the grapevine, I've heard that the AD has been contacting specific alumni and AD contributors, to basically say, "Who do you want? Ok, you contact them, let us know what they want in return." This way, a potential coach gets a call from an alumni...instead of the AD department directly, they can basically say, "We're a committee in charge of finding a new coach, what would it take for you to come to Tech?"

Now this is all rumor, the general idea I'm sure has been done many times, also, who these specific alumni and contributors are is all in question but...meh, and it is all dependent on what the AD is willing to shellout, but I figure I'll make a contribution.

Great idea for her to do it this way. Opens the door for a bigger variety and also gets these alumni invested in the program again, plus up's the donations.

BOH, please I think we all can figure out that several of these guys are not doing anything for a couple more weeks.
That was discussed two weeks ago.:)
