I am disappointed at you all that we could only fill three off season threads.

Wow, MacInnes looks great.

With those suites did they increase the seating capacity at all or is it bascially just taking the place of the bleachers on the west end?

Things are looking up in "that old dump" (© some SCSU fan whose forum handle escapes me). Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? ;)

I'm pretty sure all it did was slightly increase the 'seated' capacity.

I believe that one day, the plans call for retractable black & gold bleachers to extend from the former pep band deck down to ice level. I seem to recall MTU had a digital artists' rendering of that look earlier this summer, maybe Flashy still has it?

I'm still in favor of having a bar/beer garden area at ice level on that end of the arena, with 2 rows of barstool seats on the glass.

Were does the band go now?

They will have a temporary home in the stands (near the Misfits?) for 09-10. The year after that, they are supposed to permanently get the space above the skybox that sits over the entrance to the HEC on the east side of the arena. A spot they will be able to "pimp" and such, whatever that means. The youngins could tell you. ;) *rattles false teeth & cane*

So the capacity of the arena is as follows:

Seated Capacity in Bowl: 2,850
Total Suite Occupants including Staff: 435
Total Suite Occupants: 418
Suite Sitting Area: 125
Stated Capacity: 4,200
Actual total capacity based on points of egress: 4,785

Nice look to the updated MacInnes. Can't wait till they replace the scoreboard . Hopefully they have a good start to the season so they can start filling that place up.:)

Section P and the top of the Alumni box (in the corner on the student side where the goal horn was).

Anyone know where the GLI banners and others are going?

They're probably being replaced right now after the moths have eaten 85% of the old ones.

I really like the way the arena looks with those bleachers on the west end. Add in those bleachers and the new scoreboard and you've got a really nice looking arena that stacks up to most of the other arenas in the league.

I don't know about "stacking up" to places like Mariucci or the Ralph, aesthetically-speaking, but it is a marked improvement and should prove that there is a lot of money being put into turning this ship around.

Some new banners to raise would be nice too. I'm not talking about the participation kind either. ;)

Oh dear God...

Section P is where the Puckheads usually sit  :D

On a related note... I'm looking at hotel rooms for the game on the 9th... Would anyone have any reviews on the Travel Lodge right downtown there? The only other hotel I stayed in was the Best Western when I would race at Ripley... I'm assuming that the Travel Lodge is a step down, but do they have the basics covered?

Being that the MacInnes is On Campus, I don't believe that MTU is allowed to sell beer anywhere in their athletic facitilies save for the suites, per NCAA rules. Its a nice thought, I grant you that.

Don't know much about the Travel Lodge.

For what it's worth I recommend the Super 8 on Lake Street. Nice rooms, stumbling distance from the bars, and a nice pool.

The Franklin Square Inn can get noisy (the top floor lounge sometimes does live music.)

The Ramada across the bridge is passable, and has a smallish bar.

Well, yeah it won't compare to the Ralph, Mariucci, or Kohl's Center. I wasn't implying that it would, most college arenas don't. But it will compare nicely to the new DECC, Bemidji's arena, the NHC, the Berry, the MWSC (or whatever Mankato's arena is).

The arena is no longer gonna stand out against them in recruiting and the suites are going to bring in needed revenue.
