Re: Michigan Tech Offseason II: We Won as Much Hardware as Ovechkin!!

Not that I would ever trespass, but if I did, I would have gone up to the old radar base/juvenile correctional facility and seen creepy things like a bowling alley with a falling ceiling and three inches of standing water, a door being barred shut with a bent rifle, and a garage with nothing but a battered wheelchair in it.

SWIM ("Someone Who Is not Me") did much Keweenaw trespassing. SWIM would not condone this either, no matter how fun it might be to see what's actually in the Ripley Smelter complex.

An ATV could probably get back there, from what I'm told, but it'd need more than a sedan. ;) Also: Google Map and Wikipedia link

Lots of people take ATVs. I did it once in my 4x4 Jimmy, but would probably only attempt that again in August when the muck has dried up somewhat. If it's May or June, you'll definitely want an ATV, a good pair of hiking boots, and a pair of jeans you don't mind getting filthy.

The fallout signs are nothing special. Across the U.S. every city had fallout shelters during the the Cold War. In my town I know both the courthouse and my elementary schools were both fallout shelters.

Heck, Wads Hall still had a fallout shelter sign on the exterior in the late 90s when I attended.

The 2009-10 jerseys are starting to arrive...

Just showed up a few days ago...

Chris Conner - Pittsburgh Penguins - 2009-10
This was his only road white jersey and was worn when he posted every point this season including his two goal outburst vs the Rangers (including the game winning goal) which three days later earned him a trip back to the WBS Penguins for the rest of the regular season... go figure. I also had the chance to pick up his #18 black jersey from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but since it was only used for one game (and was $150 more?!?) I decided to pass.

Ruutu Red Senators from the last part of the regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs should also be arriving in the near future.

Forget Christmas, the end of the hockey season is my favorite time of the year!

So, you're saying it's not something that should be attempted in a Focus, but perhaps a GMC Sierra?

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason II: We Won as Much Hardware as Ovechkin!!

So the word out of the paint store today is that we've inked our new Assistant Coach. Now just to remember his name.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason II: We Won as Much Hardware as Ovechkin!!

If I remember correctly now, the new assistant coach is Damon Whitten.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason II: We Won as Much Hardware as Ovechkin!!

Ew. A former Spartan.
(And a fmr. assistant at Wayne State, UAA, and kinda MSU). Was also the MSU director of hockey operations or something of that sort.

This is quite the paint store.

Any update on Ben Johnson commiting to Tech?

If this is indeed true, it's good to see someone who comes from a very successful program. Someone who is used to winning, tends to take losing much more personal than someone who comes from a unsuccessful background. Let's hope he can instill a winning attitude in the program.

It's also nice to see someone with ties to southeast Michigan / Ontario. That area is a hotbed for talent and MTU has either had little success in landing these guys to come here or have neglected it in favor of western Canada. Nothing against western Canada, but the Huskies haven't been winning much with the boys coming in from there.

It is true. I'm the utmost reliable source.

Anyone know how many candidates applied.

I remember this guy as a pretty tough competitor.

Former Brighton player, so the connection remains strong. Pretty soon you can just call the team "the former Brighton Bulldogs turned Huskies" :)

Or maybe it's the only area downstate that Tech can recruit from :(
