Re: Michigan Tech Offseason II: We Won as Much Hardware as Ovechkin!!

F2B&G was a business major. I currently am one.

HOWEVER.
We must keep in mind that it is not nice to diss business majors, as RobGreen is one, and it is not nice to be mean to RobGreen.

The girl is wise.

RobGreen can disrespect Tom Brady...

That's because Tom Brady may just be the most over rated quaterback to ever come out of Michigan. The Lucky bastard.

RobGreen doesn't sleep. He waits.

This may be true but right now Rob Green is just waiting to go to sleep.

Holy frigging Christmas. Check out the rules updates.

Among the howlers:

- Contact to the head is now a 5 and game. Tech must have gotten 3 of those a game last season.
- If you score on a delayed penalty, you get the power play anyway. Double your pleasure.
- No more "obtainable passes" to negate icing calls.
- ICING CALLED ON THE PENALTY KILL.

Just...wow. Tech is going to lose every game 10-1 with like 30 PIMs.

I'm not sure if this can still be called hockey. The next rule change will make it legal for players to pick up the puck and just skate into the net with it.

RobGreen is only black because light is scared of shining on him.

Any comments on the stupid rules changes proposed by the idiots at the ncaa?

Stupid. Good thing those are just proposals at this point!!

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason II: We Won as Much Hardware as Ovechkin!!

I can understand why they feel the need to go with a 5 and game for the headshots. There's far too many blows to the head throughout the season and it needs to be addressed. There's a definite lack of respect among players these days, so let's hope this curbs the amount of head injuries we've seen recently.

The icing and delayed penalty proposals are foolish. Why change something that isn't broken?

Another proposal that was tabled (half-shields) would help to address the head shot issue, but I'd like to see it go even further. I peronally think that playing with no facemask would clean up the game big time. Having a full mask gives you a sense of invincibility and allows you to be far too reckless. A player will think twice about crosschecking an opponent in the mouth when he doesn't have a mask of his own to hide behind. Taking masks off would help bring hands, elbows, and sticks down.

I don't think the icing touch up is something that will matter in the game and it gives all those refs something to do. However, I think it's a complete waste of time to do it.. I can see more emphasis on head shots. But I really don't think they will play differently face mask or not. Changing the way you play requires thought you know.
It seems to me they are trying to make the power play more of an advantage and I think that's a big mistake. The power play is enough of an advantage as it is. The changes will certainly up the scoring percentage which is high enough now.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason II: We Won as Much Hardware as Ovechkin!!

I posted these somewhere else, too, but...

So basically calling more penalty time and less ability to defend on the PK. My guess is that power play percentages will reach the 35% for league leaders. People are really going to hate the referees this year. If they didn't get enough crap about judgment calls already, they are going to have fun deciding that someone deserved a game misconduct for a hit to the head (most of these calls are not clear cut at all) or if the players should be allowed to play the puck on an icing if they think it is close rather than calling automatic icing.

Teams are going to have to try to be much more careful, which means a lot of those hard working hard checking plays are going to be big risks. This is really going to put the game more into the hands of the referees. I don't see any reason to penalize a team more than they are already. If it demands being penalized more, you call a double minor, major, game, etc. We don't need this crap, there are better ways to increase scoring that don't take away a team's ability to control the game through their play, rather than referees' decisions, it is way too much power for them.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason II: We Won as Much Hardware as Ovechkin!!

two seconds after my post...here it is...the news I heard about...

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech head women’s basketball coach John Barnes has resigned to accept an assistant women’s basketball coaching position at Wisconsin. The three-time Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year wraps up his seven-year career with the Huskies with a 155-56 record (.735 percentage) and the second-most wins in school history.

“I can’t thank the Michigan Tech administration, staff and community enough for all they have done for me,” said Barnes. “Their support over my career has been outstanding. I wouldn’t change one second of my time here and will be cheering on the Huskies from Madison.

“It was a very difficult decision to leave, but this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I’m very excited about the chance to coach at Wisconsin and in the Big Ten.”

Barnes took over the women’s basketball program in 2003 and never had a losing season. His teams won 20-or-more games four times, earned three GLIAC North Division titles and advanced five times to the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies were back-to-back NCAA Midwest Regional Champions in 2009 and 2010. Three players were All-Americans under his watch, and the team ranked in the nation’s top five in team grade point average three straight seasons.

“To say that we’ve been pleased with John’s work at Michigan Tech is an understatement,” said Michigan Tech president Glenn Mroz. “He came into a good program and pushed it to make it great. We thank John for all that he’s done for our students. We’re confident he’ll continue his strong performance in Division I basketball and look forward to following his career at Wisconsin.”

Barnes becomes the second former Tech women’s basketball coach to work in the Big Ten. The Huskies’ winningest coach Kevin Borseth is currently the head coach at Michigan.

“We have a track record of coaches moving on to Division I positions,” said Tech’s director of athletics Suzanne Sanregret. “We thank John for continuing our tradition of excellence in women’s basketball and wish him the best.

“We will begin a search for the next head coach, seeking an individual who will continue our tradition of success both on and off the court.”

Barnes, who was a student-athlete and assistant coach with the men’s program prior to being named women’s head coach, will finish 18 years at Michigan Tech on June 30.

The search for Michigan Tech’s eighth head women’s basketball coach will begin immediately.

That will make the Michigan-Wisconsin game kinda interesting next year. Off the top of my head, that would make it at least 3 coaches between them that have MTU Ties.

This just came through on my Twitter feed:
"The word out of the paint store is that there is a seagull stuck in a power line."

I have no idea what this means, but since then, the sender has been unresponsive.

Did he run so far away?

Check TV6, they're probably on scene for the biggest story out of the UP in years. On a side note, at 5:30 in the morning, some guy in Detroit was in a barber shop and, seemingly for no reason, shot and killed another customer and fled the scene. Only heard the story on ABC and it was about a 10 second story, no other networks seem to be caring about it, it isn't even on the Freep website yet.

Sounds like code to me.
Try sending back, "The dog barks at midnight."

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason II: We Won as Much Hardware as Ovechkin!!

So the word out of the paint store today is that there was a seagull caught in the powerline above the Little Caesar's. It was apparently circling the open dumpster and got it's leg caught in the overhead line. After three police officers and a utility worker then got the bird unstuck. The current condition of the victim is unknown.

Incredibly terrible picture fromt he scene.

Also, I met Jamie's wife today.
