Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Tell me how Anastos has proven anything?

Anastos hasnt proven anything this hiring proves that MSU is trying to protect him from the fall out of the CCHA in the next two seasons. I am sure the Big Ten wants him to be Commish in a few years. Somebody is under contract so Tom is there for the short run just like Sertich was at tech.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

He hasn't. That's why I said waiting for a big time opening is risky; many qualified coaches looking for a job; and that's why I said (other), because most other big time schools are going to hire someone who's proven. Not sure what MSU was thinking.

Maybe Cole now becomes a candidate. My personal choice would still be Eades; probably because I have a preference to NO DAK. It would be interesting to see Eades list of successful recruits.

This maybe a long shot but Danton Cole a MSU alum worked with Finlandia head coach at UAH a couple of seasons ago.

May they reunite at tech. And Pat Mikesch gets the Finlandia job.

If you're looking to raid assistants, how about Brent Brekke from Miami? Seems like he'd be in line for a head coaching job soon. I mean, come on, he's helped build that Miami DYNASTY, and before that he was an assistant on the Cornell team that made the Frozen Four in 2003.

Then again, after Russell, you guys might be tired of former Cornell assistants :D

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

As long as the hockey program is profitable, it will remain. Profitability is more important than winning, however, the two are not mutually exclusive. If the program was deep in the red like MSU and Notre Dame, it would be doomed...

Thats why no one seems to care about tech hockey locally , season ticket holders arent renewing and community people saying tech should go to division three.

I wouldn't say they don't care. They just don't want to pay for tickets if the team isn't competitive. Winning solves most of these issues. Ticket sales, recruiting, etc.

It cant be too hard to recruit for NO DAK. Great tradition, rink and winning games.

Smart move by SCSU. Tech isn't that smart. As you said they should've hired Blais when he was available. Eades is also a Gasparini protege.

This statement assumes that Blais would have said yes if we asked. It also assumes we didn't ask. I've said it before. You can't just dictate who your next coach is or make blanket statements about who should have been hired. You have to put your best foot forward and then see who's interested. You could argue we haven't put competitive packages out there, but at the same time the salary we paid Russell isn't necessarily the top salary that would have been paid to others. You see who is interested and then you pay the person you pick (among the interested parties) what they are worth and no more. Just because we might have paid Barry Melrose $500K a year, that doesn't become the salary for any other hire. This isn't the New York Knicks who think that if you pay an average player superstar salary, he becomes a superstar. Sorry, I couldn't think of a good NHL example of that approach.

I have seen fans that wont even go to the game even for free tickets. What kind of product are you selling?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Tim Coughlin - the guy is a winner. Cole is worth talking to.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

He has won at LSSU. Isnt Frank buried somewhere in the echl. Frank sure would clean house but he couldnt get Lakers on track his second time through ranks.

Frank is a Quad Cities of the CHL. Sure, he won 20 years ago at LSSU, but in his last tenure he was 32-97-20. He's also not a guy who enamors himself to media and alumni. Yeah. Great choice.

The Big Ten has a commissioner, Jim Delany. They do not have commissioners for individual sports.

Why would they Tom A as coach then? He must be a fill in till some former MSU Spartans coach's contract is up with some other team.

I dont see him being a long term coach. I think this is similar to what tech did when they hired Sertich for three seasons. He was in till they found the right guy at the time which was Jamie Russell.

What former well established college head coach is ready to jump back into tech hockey?

John Markell
Danton Cole
Rick Comley
Craig Dahl
Doug Woog
Frank Anzalone
Mike Sertich again

Any other recycled coaches ready to come back.

MSU hiring proves anybody can coach college hockey. I think that tech has a good pickings when MSU hires the commish. The field is wide open.

I encourage you to send in your resume. keep in mind that it would be unethical to post here while you're waiting to hear back from them.

I would be very surprised if Markell isn't already in the running. Cole is a maybe, but I'm not certain he would leave his USA Hockey position (like Rolston) to come to Tech.
