Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Dave Shyiak...

Dave Shyiak ( Northern Mich grad "91" ) is a very interesting possibility here. That would tie in with keeping 2nd assistant Damon Whitten on the payroll because he has ties with Shyiak. On the recruiting side I would say Alaska, ( Anchorage ) has very similar challenges as recruiting into Houghton. This could happen in my opinion.
Much more likely than Pearson, Jackson or Eades. ( Why would they leave what that have to come to Tech )

I have recently learned that Eades is a Packer fan. Blah, you can have him.

I like Dave Shyiak too, He has worked with Whitten, in the WCHA, and even worked and lived in the UP and UAA is a similar school. He can also refuel the rival with nmu by just being there.

How does his present contract look????

I'd take Eades in a heartbeat over Shyiak. We need someone special not run of the mill.

I was in a similar position 10 years ago to what these long time assistants are in now. In a number two job, comfortable, well paid, etc. I had the chance to go to a number one job and I'm glad I did. The feeling of success when the organization does well is just fantastic. I'm glad I jumped even though there was more risk and pay was an issue. I'd recommend to any assistant if the chance comes up for a head coaching job... Do it.
Plus there is more to do in Houghton, especially if you like the out of doors, than there is in Grand Forks. (Having been to both extensively.) And Houghton is closer to civilization.

In the past werent these guys assistant coaches before they went to tech Boxer, Narhgang, Brown, Mancini, and Russell.

We need a established head coach ie Shyiak or Rolston. Guys who are running the show and knows the talent pool.

No Division Three or USHL head coaches either.
Even look at guys like Doug Woog, Rick Comley, and Craig Dahl.

I agree with you 100 % Michigan Tech has to go for a guy in charge. We don't know if Cary Eades is bringing the players into North Dakota. More likely it was Gino Gasperini and now Dave Hakstol. With assistant coaches ( ie: Jamie Russell ) you just don't know if it was Jamie or Head Coach Mike Schafer ( Cornell ) bringing the players in. More likely it was Shafer. Michigan Tech needs to go away from assistants and MTU Alumni. Dave Shyiak fits the situation on all accounts. We will see but I put Shyiak on the top of the list right now especially with the Damon Whitten connection. We will see !

More importantly, I'd help pay his salary at MTU. It's a win-win:

his salary would be 19 dollars a month?

Plus there is more to do in Houghton, especially if you like the out of doors, than there is in Grand Forks. (Having been to both extensively.) And Houghton is closer to civilization.

why would he want to transfer to the head coaching job in Houghton when you take a look at the arena? The Ralph is a palace; Houghton is a barn. Fun place to play in as a player, not exactly what I would want as my office. Hougthon is a much smaller town than Grand Forks. It'd be like an assistant coach of a premier high school football program in Texas leaving to go be the head coach of a football team in Idaho. Sure, the outdoors are better in Idaho, but are you leaving for something better?

Furthermore, Eades is making more as an assistant coach at UND then he would as a head coach at Tech. If you're following the money, no reason to leave. And if you want to wait for a better opportunity, like DU, Minnesota, Michigan, or Notre Dame, then Eades is in a great position to do so.

Face it, Yager will be the head coach of Michigan Tech next year

Thank you we need a present/past Head Coach from a Division One program. Shyiak fits the job perfect, wasnt he interviewed by tech seven years ago. If he not availible i would look into these guys Rolston, Markell, Dahl, Comley, and Woog.

We need somebody who is going to clean the program from top to bottom with a Mancini attitude. We need a proven winner either as a player/coach. Somebody who keeps tech competive in the WCHA not bottom dwellers.

I am sick of these push over coaches who dont have any good results and wins. Change everything please i want to see Division one hockey in the UP for many more years.

What your saying is the big picture and you are right.

I don't know how much input Whitten will have, but didn't he quit on Shyiak a few years ago even though he had to take a demotion to do so?

I feel that Eades understands the potential that hockey has in the Copper Country, given that he played for UND in the late 70's and early 80's. Suzanne and other sources have gone on the record that salary will not be a factor this time around. If UND wins the NCAA's this year, Eades will have reached the pinnacle at UND, because Hakstol seems to be going nowhere. If I were an assistant in his position I would have a hunger to head my own program. They are committing to an investment to reinvigorate the program.

Why would they keep Whitten around if he wasnt a major factor in the big picture?

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

exactly. He's going to have some amount of input into who gets hired.

Does that mean somebody from MSU Spartans would be in high consideration ie Brian Renfrew who is Associate coach under Rick Comley and has been an assistant at NMU and UAA.

I actually believe he will get very little. The search committee will be heading up most of that effort and the final decision will probably come as an agreement from Suzanne and Les.

Do you know who is on the search committee?
