Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

reports that Danton Cole was snubbed for the MSU job.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

hmmm. ECAC commissioner Steve Hagwell grew up in South Range and graduated from MTU. :)

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

;)You can have Hagwell; we don't have any use for him here!

Maybe Tech can get Cole to come to Houghton with Ron Rolston to help him revise the program to get them to get all USA-17 and 18 kids to commit to tech with its high academics since most of these kids either go Big 10 school or Notre Dame.

Given the Anastos rumors, what about Bruce Mcleod? :p:D:D

Judging by the excellent job Dean Blais is doing at UNO, Tech. should have hired him. But actually Tech should give Dean Blais' mentor a call. Hire Gino Gasparini as a consultant.

SCSU recently hired him as a consultant. Maybe he can help your program. Seriously call now!!!! What are you waiting for!!!!

His own consulting firm focuses on the sports industry, and he’s also executive adviser at Sports Executive International. Gasparini won three national titles as coach at North Dakota and spent 13 years as commissioner of the USHL, turning it from a fledgling league into a prime source of talent for top college hockey programs and a proving ground for NHL prospects.

Gasparini will be paid $15,000 a month for six months, plus expenses, in a contract with the university’s foundation. He could receive extensions as the hockey center development unfolds, Potter said. Gasparini has told Potter that he has no interest in becoming the university’s next athletic director.

May have to wait 6 months before he can help you find a new coach but he does seem to have a knack for finding good talent.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

I hear you. What's scary is, I think you're right. We could easily be dropping hockey in 5 years if the program isn't more well-supported. It won't be more well-supported without winning games.
No pressure, Suzanne. It's only the most important hire since George Washington's election.
As long as the hockey program is profitable, it will remain. Profitability is more important than winning, however, the two are not mutually exclusive. If the program was deep in the red like MSU and Notre Dame, it would be doomed...

Smart move by SCSU. Tech isn't that smart. As you said they should've hired Blais when he was available. Eades is also a Gasparini protege.

his salary would be 19 dollars a month?

why would he want to transfer to the head coaching job in Houghton when you take a look at the arena? The Ralph is a palace; Houghton is a barn. Fun place to play in as a player, not exactly what I would want as my office. Hougthon is a much smaller town than Grand Forks. It'd be like an assistant coach of a premier high school football program in Texas leaving to go be the head coach of a football team in Idaho. Sure, the outdoors are better in Idaho, but are you leaving for something better?

Furthermore, Eades is making more as an assistant coach at UND then he would as a head coach at Tech. If you're following the money, no reason to leave. And if you want to wait for a better opportunity, like DU, Minnesota, Michigan, or Notre Dame, then Eades is in a great position to do so.

Face it, Yager will be the head coach of Michigan Tech next year

And the recent MSU hiring shows that waiting around for an opening can be risky;most (other) big time schools are more likely to hire a proven head coach; not an assistant.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Tell me how Anastos has proven anything?

He hasn't. That's why I said waiting for a big time opening is risky; many qualified coaches looking for a job; and that's why I said (other), because most other big time schools are going to hire someone who's proven. Not sure what MSU was thinking.

Maybe Cole now becomes a candidate. My personal choice would still be Eades; probably because I have a preference to NO DAK. It would be interesting to see Eades list of successful recruits.

I'll bet he is. We are not.

You'd bet a Stanley Cup Winning Coach who's known throughout the U.S. and Canada (likely the entire hockey world) is interested in coaching at MTU? And you're not interested? Didn't know you were on the search committee.

This has to rank among the best incoming recruiting classes of all time if not the best.
