What former well established college head coach is ready to jump back into tech hockey?

John Markell
Danton Cole
Rick Comley
Craig Dahl
Doug Woog
Frank Anzalone
Mike Sertich again

Any other recycled coaches ready to come back.

Little birdie tells me Mike Keenan is interested.

Why not just hire last year's NHL coach of the year, Dave Tippett?

Who knows what is happening with the Phoenix Coyotes! Hear they lost 40 Million dollars so far this year. Might be moving to Winnipeg. May have new owners soon. Got to believe coaching the Coyotes is a stressful job maybe even more stressful than Coaching at Tech.:D

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

This statement assumes that Blais would have said yes if we asked. It also assumes we didn't ask. I've said it before. You can't just dictate who your next coach is or make blanket statements about who should have been hired. You have to put your best foot forward and then see who's interested. You could argue we haven't put competitive packages out there, but at the same time the salary we paid Russell isn't necessarily the top salary that would have been paid to others. You see who is interested and then you pay the person you pick (among the interested parties) what they are worth and no more. Just because we might have paid Barry Melrose $500K a year, that doesn't become the salary for any other hire. This isn't the New York Knicks who think that if you pay an average player superstar salary, he becomes a superstar. Sorry, I couldn't think of a good NHL example of that approach.

You don't see who's interested; you decide who you want and pursue him. Blais didn't apply for the UNO job; they recruited him (I realize that's not one of MTU Hockey's strong points). The first time he told them no; eventually they convinced him to come. He said part of the reason he went was because of how bad they wanted him along with he wanted to get back into coaching college hockey (and they made it worth his while). Great story about an AD that MTU could learn from.

Also if Dean Blais wanted this guy - Tech probably should as well.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Just pointing out that the last 3 head coaches at UND had not been college head coaches before being hired. In fact, the last of their head coaches with head coaching experience turned out to be a disaster.

I say find a brilliant assistant who also knows the prime recruiting grounds.

Agreed, generally if he is a present HC either he is not that good or he is staying where he is.
I don't really care where he comes from but he better be able to really coach.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Last time around I encouraged the hire of Dave Shyiak. This time it is John Markell. He has an impressive resume coaching at a very unsupported tOSU program and has proven to be a good recruiter. Many of his teams achieved success with players leaving early for the NHL.

He recruits well in the Ontario leagues, where he was born, and has the ability to bring excitement to Tech not seen in many years.

Others may sound good on paper, but Tech once again needs to dip into the ranks of experienced coaches who have ties within all ranks of college hockey to bring in recruits. John Markell can do this given time and resources which the AD says will be there for the next coach.

Doug Woog. Seriously. Seriously?

No *ing way. I love the Wooger, but he's (to put it politely) lost a step over the past year. No way he coaches any hockey team.

Doug Woog would require a contract with $10,000 per year in depends or oops I crapped my pants purchases.

As creative as a Sioux obsessionist. :p

And SG: Ok, it read like you have actually heard that name tossed around. That would be embarrassing.

Seriously, Doug Woog needs to happen.

It would be the greatest hire since MacInnes!

Someone mentioned the head coach at Buffalo High School? The head coach at Buffalo High School couldn't get a job at a metro AA school!
